Rep. Ted Poe: House Freedom Caucus Moved the Goalpost in Healthcare Negotiations
People's Pundit ^ | 3/27/17 | Richard Baris

Rep. Ted Poe., R-Texas, resigned from the House Freedom Caucus (HFC) after they moved the goalpost during healthcare negotiations with President Trump. As People’s Pundit Daily previously reported, the ObamaCare repeal bill was amended 11 times in an effort to appease the various conservative and moderate factions in the House GOP.

“I have resigned from the House Freedom Caucus,” Rep. Poe, a founding member of the caucus said in a statement. “In order to deliver on the conservative agenda we have promised the American people for eight years, we must come together to find solutions to move this country forward. Saying no is easy, leading is hard, but that is what we were elected to do. Leaving this caucus will allow me to be a more effective Member of Congress and advocate for the people of Texas. It is time to lead.”

In an appearance on Fox and Friends Monday morning, the Texas congressman said he spoke with HFC chair Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., who asked him to stay. But he explained how the caucus changed their demands after the president negotiated with House leadership to get their provisions into the bill and felt that the caucus was basically negotiating in bad faith.

“They were always going to be a ‘No’,” he said.

He made a similiar comment over the weekend.

“Some only want to be the party of ‘no’ & would’ve voted against the 10 commandments,” Rep. Poe tweeted.

I usually stick with FC people and I love Dave Brat. However, moving the goal posts is not done in good faith. However, there is still no big deal in getting together and putting something else back together.

The sad thing is that the people stuck on Ocare are still getting jobbed, and they need help soon.

That is what Owen was trying to teach us: the Ryan bill *was* the 2015 bill. Owen, correct me if I am wrong.

The free market has been out of healthcare for 50 years. And its all or nothing now?

And you prefer the same mandates because it would be a republican version of Obamacare?

I say let it fail on its own. Obamacare is in a death spiral anyway. The replacement can't be worse than the crap sandwich Ryan came up with, but it could be better.

They wanted to not cover pre existing condition and higher rates for sick people according to Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas.

The Republicans finally handed the opportunity to bring prosperity to America and the F Caucus says No!

Socialized medicine that dramatically increases costs, deductibles and out of pocket expenses = prosperity?

And you think the RINO's who created Obamacare 2.0 are going to deliver meaningful tax cuts to you and your government managed economy? Economic illiteracy is a terrible thing.

I’ve never known Cong. Ted Poe to be a squish or a cuck.

While I’m glad the stinker bill was pulled, if the HFC kept insisting on more and more things after Trump and Ryan put their provisions into the bill, then they really are negotiating in bad faith.

Nonetheless, if the bill ended up keeping the basic structure of Obamacare, it was good that it ended up in the crapper.

And it shows Trump knows he can’t really trust the FC if they weren’t satisficed when their demands were met.

If it was going to be changed in reconciliation then why not pass the best possible bill and work backwards. As usual, the left wing leaders of the Republican Party negotiate against themselves and pass left wing versions of what should be good bills. Pass a full reform to free market and force these democrat senators in red states to vote against it a year before their reelection bids. Work back to a compromise bill and then finalize it.

As I recall, even the excellent Paul-Sanford bill covers pre-existing conditions for a period of around 2 years, so they could probably could have waited and phased the PECs out later.

Perception is reality. Stock market being up, a win for a new administration and a feeling of being on a roll is more important than arguing over who is more conservative.

Can you explain the HC bill the Republican were going to vote on? Just curious to know if you understand everything that was in that bill. All I hear are what the mainstream media outlets are reporting.

Exactly...No one seems to know what either side proposed...Be nice if they'd make some of these proposals public...Would likely save a lot of division on FR and the rest of the Country...

Saying no is easy...

It didn't seem so easy when it came to blocking Obama's spending agenda.

“because the HFC rejected socialism.”

They didn’t reject socialism...the President gave them 80% of what they wanted and he even signed a promise to keep the changes in...they led President Trump to believe he had the votes, then they backed out.

The problem is they have no bill of their own...all they can say is free market, but not how that would work. They say use Rand Paul’s plan...but Paul’s plan is a huge gamble...after talking his plan up for 2 days, he finally admitted that he had no idea if the plan would pass Senate rules. These guys don’t have a clue and they are left with just saying no to everything because if they don’t say no, they cease to exist.

I hope Trump and Bannon run them out of DC for good.
