Some preppers talk about the versatility of Glock 17 magazines being able to fit with the Glock 19. This feature is highly desirable for most prepper with survival and limited resources in mind.
The standardization Glock put into place is what makes it a perfect prepper handgun. When it comes to handguns, very few companies have adopted magazine standardization. Glock on the other hand has embraced standardization. This makes Glock ideal for groups.
Take Beretta for example. Beretta is a great handgun, I can not say they follow the same level of standardization as Glock. For example, the Beretta APX will not use 92F magazines. This creates an issue of stockpiling magazines for the same brand name, but different models. What do think? Read the rest of the Glock prepper story here.
“Try doing that with any other pistol.”
Springfield XDs have a lot of mag commonality.
Between models and between compact size and standard size.
See, I too love revolvers, but they are heavy and take up a lot of space. A Glock 19 on the waist is always there and never needs to be away from your person. Kind of like a Gerber tool.
Perfect?
No.
Good enough?
Yes.
How about 13 half inch holes?
Glock 21 doesn’t have as nice a trigger as my 1911s, but I don’t end up with a bloody hand after shooting a Glock.
The best triggers ever made were the Colt percussion revolvers. Suuuuhmoooooth....
“If your local LEOs have Glocks...get a glock.”
Why? If you are short on mags in the SHTF you don’t need to swipe them. Just take the whole gun. Or is this some strange SHTF where everyone else’s guns disappear but their magazine stay behind?
Why buy a gun you don’t like for the SHTF when you can just buy 10 or 20 more mags for the gun you already have that you DO like?
I have a SW 686 which is my good gun. My Glock 19 never leaves my side though. If you get a chance try a Glock 31. It’s almost as much fun and seriously accurate with a few small mods.
Revolvers for me go in the glovebox with a couple speed loaders. Car door? No problem.
It takes both hands and tools to get a revolver working again after it gets bound up with dirt or residue under the extractor star.
Been there, done that. More than once.
Only other gun I had that would go down as hard was my issued M9 with broken springs and yes, more than once.
LCR revolver is about 12 ounces. Fits in a pocket. 22, 38 or 357. The only place you can’t take it is swimming.
Sounds good. If you’re prepping for a thousand round day. Think I’ll keep the ammo and my 1911.
Yep. You don’t even have to pull the trigger - just thinking about it is enough. I take the triggers on my 1911s down to where most people would consider them to be unsafe but they are crude devices compared to any of those old Colts.
.
I have a pair of Glock compact handguns.
They can use any Glock Handgun magazine, and there are grip extenders to fit 17 mags to the 26 and similar models.
My only gripe with Glock is the unnecessary stiffness of many springs that have nothing to do with the firing mechanisms.

“Springfield XDs have a lot of mag commonality.

Yes the mag from a Full size XD will fit in a compact, absolutely.
But, go to a small local pistol match and try to borrow an XD magazine. Maybe you will find one maybe you won’t. My friends experience is pretty typical it’s easy to find a Glock shooter. You KNOW there will be couple.
I like XD’s. I am currently contemplating switching my M9 style metal pistol for a “plastic cop gun” and I am comparing XD’s M&P’s and Glocks. When you get down to comparing after market offerings there still seem to be a larger variety of things aimed at Glocks.
Pretty sure they only come in 6 and 8 round.
.
My wife has a Sig 226.
Very easy gun to shoot, especially for those with small hands.
.
No 8 rounders.
But the 686 comes in 6 round and the 686P is 7 round.
.
Glock is definitely a bit of a pain at cleaning time.
Pulling down those two little latches to release the slide can put holes in your finger tips, unless you’re a guitar player.

.
I would have one less dog after that!
