Retail giant Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. WMT reportedly inked deals with more than 100 U.S. manufacturers on Jun 28 to sell 13 products on Walmart.com. The company had invited more than 500 American manufacturers and suppliers to pitch products in the country during the company's fourth annual U.S. manufacturing open call. During the open call, suppliers met with the company's senior leaders and merchants to sell their 'Made in USA' products online.
The deals are part of the company's commitment to support products made, assembled or grown in the U.S. During the fourth annual call, Wal-Mart also discussed the company's forthcoming proposals that would help simplify product labeling and encourage apprenticeships. The company is also advocating for tax and trade policies that encourage domestic manufacturing.
Being the largest private employer in the U.S., Wal-Mart took an initiative in late Jan 2013 to contribute to the revitalization of the sluggish U.S. economy and intended to spend $50 billion in the next 10 years to buy more American merchandise.
Wal-Mart now plans to invest $250 billion cumulatively over the next 10 years, which will create one million jobs. This will also include the jobs in manufacturing and related services.
Wal-Mart believes input costs overseas are very high, which limit U.S. companies to produce goods outside the U.S. Further, President Donald Trump has also been insisting on hiring more U.S. workers. In fact, Trump has repeatedly criticized U.S. companies across industries for not keeping jobs in the country.
The commitment to increase domestic sourcing of the products it sells and create jobs shows Wal-Mart's dedication to find innovative solutions to improve the economy.
Notably, Wal-Mart has been taking several initiatives to understand the evolving needs of customers and regain their confidence and boost sales.....

Inked deals with 100 companies to sell 13 products??
Did Zaks hire some of the fires NYT editors?
My made-in-USA hand-operated can opener I bought at my local Walmart is still going strong.
13 products???
Walmart must sell hundred of thousands of different products.
This makes not sense and reads like typical Free Traitor gobbledygook.
Go to a wall mart(not the grocery store/pharmacy part) and touch 13 random items. Look where they are made, you will be lucky if even ONE is Made in the USA.
“Go to a wall mart(not the grocery store/pharmacy part) and touch 13 random items. Look where they are made, you will be lucky if even ONE is Made in the USA.”
That is my point. WOW 13 products out of hundred of thousands - let’s all cheer! Sounds rather pathetic.
And those 13 products are going to generate a million jobs!
One thing I wish they would sell is dam good work boots. Before it went out of business, Sheboygan Shoe used to make the very best work boots anywhere. Better than even the best on the market. Dam were they hard to break in.
Methinks the author left out a word: “thousand”
Another source highlighting the 13 new products:
The Walmart press release lists 100 companies and their products with more to come.
Yep, poorly written headline...it was 500 people who did 750 product presentations with 100 getting immediate approval, not sure where 13 came from, maybe only 13 of the 100 will be made in the USA?. From the WM press release:
“750 products offered deals on walmart.com, nearly 100 headed to Walmart store shelves.
BENTONVILLE, Ark., June 28, 2017 More than 500 entrepreneurs from across the country walked through the doors of Walmarts corporate office in Bentonville, Ark., today as part of the companys U.S. Manufacturing Open Call. The day of deal-making and networking included 750 product presentations and an offer to participants to sell their items on Walmart.com an opportunity to potentially reach millions of Walmart customers.”
and
“However, nearly 100 companies wont have to wait, as they received deals on the spot...”
1,000,000 million jobs?! Almost sounds like a Terry McAwful statistic.
Wal-Mart is the largest company on Earth.
Their men’s underwear were great too, made out of the same materials as the boot. Still have a friction rash there after all these years.
100 companies for 13 products? The 87 companies might be making widgets for the 13 products, I would guess...
“Inked deals with 100 companies to sell 13 products??”
They’re ‘journalists’, like school teachers, they HATE MATH.
And that is why I quit Walmart. Once the kids took over from Sam Walton it became about their own personal wealth. Sam wanted US made products, the kids wanted more money. My opinion may be BS but is based on when the US made products disappeared from Wally World.
I was an ex WalMart employee...I got fired for Sexual harassment. The girl in toys told me about her activities with her boyfriend, so one day she told us (my coworkers and I in sporting goods), that she might be pregnant. I told her that if she wasn’t having sex outside of marriage, you wouldn’t be pregnant. She was offended that I said that, so a few days later, they told me I was fired. I had I job offer the day before to work for Staples.
Ditto on work boots or just about any kind of boot. I bought a pari of Timberline boots at the first of the year and they are falling apart already.
