USA #1 Gold Cup 2017 Victory Ping! :)
Hopefully this will be good momentum going into final qualifying games for WC 2018 Russia in Sept & Oct.
Very good win for USNMT. The substitutions were critical and he chose the appropriate players to leave in the game. It was evident that Morris’ work rate was impactful on both sides of the ball. They are still a distance from competing with top rate teams but getting better. In a decade they will be a top ten team and compete with Spain, Germany, Brazil and the like. Still need speed of play to increase, especially around the box.
Anyone here suspect ‘Berlin Freeper’ might be a soccer fan?
Definitely a game for the soccer purist. Both sides had excellent ball movement and good defenses resulting in not much real action.
This USMNT has far more potential than the last few offerings. Not sure how they stack up against the Europeans but they should show well in the World Cup next summer.
I read through the first 9 posts, and no one seems to have a clue as to what sport is being discussed. Not a single post could name it.
Since the only sport where Jamaica made a name was bobsledding, my guess from the report and the posts would be that sport.
It was a great win! With Jamaica evening the score early in the 2nd half, the US team felt more pressure, especially as the game went into the 70th minute. Nearing the end, I just shouted at the tv, until finally, FINALLY the winning goal was scored! What a beauty!
Lawn Fairies!! Soccer is another means to try and European-ize our country. Be a man and play AMERICAN football.
Berlin Freeper, thanks for your threads and posts. My opinion is that Acosta may not be able to play at this level. I have read glowing reports about him that say he is going to be great. Nothing against him, and the staff must see something in him. But to me, any number of young players could have done all that he did in this tournament and more. My opinion is that he plays with a lack of urgency on defense and goes forward on offense with more enthusiasm than soccer smarts. He certainly doesn’t make use of space. His service and through passes are, to be charitable, just below average. His hustle on Blake’s injury was typical of his play in this Cup. He was a bit late to the loose ball, but went hard when he recognized it. (Certainly, this was a clean play on his part and rightly, he received no criticism from players or announcers.)
Anyway, I’d be interested in your thoughts as well as other Freepers here.

Taking our daughter today to an audition for a large hardware chain/store commercial.
Fingers crossed (In Germany it's pressed thumbs - Daumen drücken!)
Struggling with Zusi in the back, but he's doing better. Leaving the post open on that Jamaica corner kick was inexcusable.
Bradley was a calming source in the mid - his control and distribution were a welcome change. Nice to have the US play a possession game.
Altidore continues to perplex me. He is the laziest striker I have ever seen. Constantly away from the action - sadly it's like he anticipates where the ball will be played and purposefully stays away. For such a big frame, he falls or dives too easy. Yes he scored, but he's a non-factor for most of the match.
Glad to have Arena back on board. He's making good changes and his steady leadership is welcome in the program.
Rode 31.5 miles today around the whole of Müggelsee, which I did one time before. Otherwise I returned the way I came (one way is 11.2 miles). Added all together from my app, I traveled 198 miles on my bike.
Today when I was leaving the beach after having two swims:
Saturday we leave for a three week beach vacation at Binz. This is our third Summer in a row there. Train leaves at 6:30am. We will be on the beach before noon. :)
