If California as it currently stands somehow manages to secede, they’ll lose nearly all inland and northern counties which will in turn secede from California to rejoin the US instead. Same thing happened in Virginia in the Civil War, which is why we now have West Virginia, so there is precedent.

I don’t think it would be the whole state. Big pieces would remain in the Union. LA, Stank Francesspool, and most of the South would go ... and good riddance.

This Calexit stuff is funny. It’s thrown out there without any analysis of the real challenges, like:

- The U.S. would likely withdraw their military bases, a huge economic impact.

- California has unsustainable debt which the U.S. will no longer protect or guarantee.

- Most large corporations there are U.S. based, with the bulk of their business sales and operations in the rest of the states. Many of those companies would have to relocate to the U.S. or face additional tax and import burdens.

- The numbers of poor and socially-supported people are unsustainable.

- They don’t have enough power to support their state/country, nor the resources to make it.

- The don’t have enough water to support their state/country, nor the resources to draw it.

- The population is engaging in their own “Calexit”, by moving in vast numbers out of the state. These are productive middle class citizens and fed-up wealthy folks. The exodus in unsustainable and would require California to open their borders to immigration even more, creating an even greater burden on their social systems.

These are serious gaps in their plans, which don’t seem to rise to the level of discussion, even in these silly interviews. Calexit would be a disaster for California, and would be an amusing collapse to watch.

It seems California would need to pay their share of the national debt as it exits. That would be up to 12% based on percentage of population. 12% of 20 trillion is 2.4 trillion.

Yep . . . and it would certainly be nice not to have their 55 electoral votes automatically go to the D’s. Plus 2 Senators . . . and however many D Congress Critters there are. Would be wonderful to get rid of Pelosi, Waters, Schiff and others in one fell swoop~!!!!

#1: The U.S.A. would allow those California counties whose citizens vote to remain in the U.S.A. to remain, as the U.S. State of California.

#2: Mexicans and other foreigners would flood into California.

#3: La Raza would declare itself the only legitimate government of California.

#4: The U.S.A. would re-invoke the Monroe Doctrine, declaring the Nation of California off-limits to foreign control and make it, de facto or de jure, a U.S. protectorate.

#5: Drug Cartels would move in and take over.

#5: California Leftists would try to flee the crime and anarchy. They would find that the U.S. has erected a wall to prevent them from entering the U.S.

#6: The U.S.--devoid of California Leftists insanity--would prosper beyond anyone's wildest dreams!

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

Based on the insight of another FReeper, repealing the ill-conceived 17th Amendment (17A) would arguably have the effect of ALL states seceding from the Union without actually doing so.

Getting rid of 17A would help put a major dent in not only putting a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that Congress cannot justify under its Article I, Section 8-limited powers, but also putting a stop to unconstitutional federal government interference in the affairs of the sovereign states.

In addition to patriots supporting Trump in leading the states to repeal 17A, patriots also need to support Trump in putting a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.

Once unconstitutional federal taxes are stopped, the states will probably find a tsunami of new state revenues (higher state taxes), that they won’t know what to do with, establishing their own healthcare programs, improving public schools, increasing funding for police and fire departments and repairing infrastructure for starters.

Drain the swamp sewer! Drain the sewer!

Remember in November 2018 !

Since corrupt Congress is the biggest part of the sewer (imo) that Trump wants to drain, it is actually up to patriots to drain the sewer in the 2018 elections, patriots supporting Trump by electing as many new members of Congress as they can who will support Trump.

In the meanwhile, patriots need to make sure that there are plenty of Trump-supporting candidates on the primary ballots.

Patriots need to qualify candidates by asking them why the Founding States made the Constitution’s Section 8 of Article I; to limit (cripple) the federal government’s powers.

Patriots also need to make sure that candidates are knowledgeable of the Supreme Court's clarifications of the federal government’s limited powers listed above.

Also, unlike incumbent members of Congress who wrongly remained silent while misguided state officials abridged the constitutionally enumerated rights of citizens during the lawless Obama Administration, patriots need to make sure that candidates on the 2018 primary ballots commit to the following.

Candidates need to commit to making and enforcing 14th Amendment-related laws to prosecute misguided state officials who use state powers to abridge constitutionally enumerated protections, 1st Amendment-protected religious expression and free speech for example, such actions prohibited by Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.

”14th Amendment, Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

Again, drain the sewer! Drain the sewer!
