Yeah, I ‘see’ Quix once in a while on another forum. Thanks for the welcome. This came about because some kind FReeper posted a link to this topic over on my tiny little forum. I was on there because I had something to do with the new machine (I’m still running most of the time on this 21 year old museum piece from a really underfunded museum) and the new machine had d/led some updates and had me reboot a couple days ago. I relogged on and got tired of looking at the “any minute now” screens. I shudder to think what kind of “updates” are involved.

There comes a point in every hardware’s life where it’s really past the time to put any new/updated s/w on it.
Software and hardware are largely written for each other over a span of a few years (software can easily overload any hardware).
I have some of sets of hardware/software from various periods from about 1992. When properly paired, they still work great, but most peeps would relegate them to (low rent) museum status.
