Are revolvers ideal or obsolete? Neither. They are a compromise, just like every other firearm in existence.

Indispensible for roulette.

Revolvers are more safe and easy to use.

I don’t have any revolvers but any gun is better
than NO gun.

I think the safties on my autos are pretty good. I have revolver that has no safety at all. I have a .38 spec colt agent and I don’t think it even has a safety.

I finally put my .38spc for carry on the shelf for a .380 pocket gun. It’s just so much easier to carry. That’s the only downside to revolvers is their weight. You can get a Ruger LCR but they are pretty awful to shoot.
For self defense, a semi is suits me even if it requires more TLC. For fun a .357 is tops. I always look forward to using it and my wife and kids always prefer it to.
The answer is have some of both.

So do I. For personal and home defense, I carry an auto (or have one nearby). For handgun hunting, wheel guns all the way. Although I don’t live in Alaska anymore, I carried wheel guns (and later a shotgun as well) for bear protection. Can’t imagine carrying an auto in that situation.

Semi-automatic pistols are better for Polish Roulette.

If you get into an actual gun fight, the chances are good that the bad guy will have a high capacity 9mm. The chances are also good that there will be more than one bad guy. So, if you have a 5 or 6 shot revolver, and you find yourself in a real gunfight, there's a good chance you will immediately be at a disadvantage and you'll be wishing you had brought more gun.
The good news is, you probably won't end up in an actual gun fight and a 5 or 6 shot snub nosed revolver will be perfectly adequate for going to the grocery store or running your errands. probably.
But I still find 10-15 rounds much more comforting than 5 or 6. because I squared off with 3 guys one day and know what it feels like to have not brought enough gun.

I love them both also and compete in matches with both but usually if I have to make a decision on competing with one or the other the revo wins.

Leaving something for the grandkids (for a future day somewhat unclear) should have wheels....including revolvers which will likely continue ‘on duty’ long after I’m gone...

I carry a .380 semi pocket gun, but the wife has a S&W 5-round .357 snub nose wheel gun, actually lighter tnan my .380. She likes the light weight, says she will aim at the cojones to hit them in the chest. :)
