Congress got the power...but does it have guts to use it ?

Congress has three formal methods by which it can combat non-compliance with a duly issued
subpoena. Each of these methods invokes the authority of a separate branch of government.

First, the long dormant inherent contempt power permits Congress to rely on its own constitutional
authority to detain and imprison a contemnor until the individual complies with congressional
demands.

Second, the criminal contempt statute permits Congress to certify a contempt citation to
the executive branch for the criminal prosecution of the contemnor.

Finally, Congress may rely on the judicial branch to enforce a congressional subpoena. Under this procedure, Congress may
seek a civil judgment from a federal court declaring that the individual in question is legally
obligated to comply with the congressional subpoena.

Congress surrendered their budget control to the Executive, and their law-making power to bureaucrats.

Congressional hearings today are a way to keep topics out of the hands of actual prosecutors.

It’s all click bait. Gowdy’s questions are concise. It’s obvious he studies the issues and the questions so it’s a thing of beauty to watch him catch people trying to outwit him.

I’m kind of new to using youtube as news and I can tell you it’s discouraging when it’s referenced with click bait headlines, computer synthesized voices and dubious voice overs.

For all of the Gowdy haters out there who don’t have any idea how the different branches of government function, remember this from the Gowdy committee...

Correct - almost. What he can do and has done is send referrals to DOJ and possibly to the FBI. And he has done so and is continuing to do so and has explained many times that CONGRESS DOES NOT DO CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS NOR PROSECUTE CRIMES.

The referrals from congressional committees are the result of testimony that indicates the possibility of criminal activity (perjury for example) or other evidence of crimes that crosses their desks.

But the Never-Gowdys never bother to do a Google search or two for Gowdy-referrals to see if he is making referrals which of course he is.
