California GDP is $2.623 trillion (2016) which is about the same as the UK. An independent California will be fine.

That first-world economic status would collapse almost immediately upon secession. Once the realities of having to form your own military and tend to your own infrastructure, not to mention the departure of the U.S. military-driven 22% of the entire job base in places like San Diego, things will be quite different. And oh, by the way, 47.8% of CA’s landmass, including its coastline, is owned and managed by the U.S. government. Further, let’s not forget CA’s having to pay up its portion of the national debt.
Ok so how does the UK manage on the same GDP with a larger population? How about little Israel?
If California were to secede, they wouldn’t get to have all of it. We keep: the US Navy port in San Diego and enough of the city & county to operate the port; 29 Stumps (the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center - Twentynine Palms); Vandenberg Air Force Base; and all of the National Parks that are owned by the People of the United States of America, including all other Federal lands run by the Department of the Interior. We will let the People of the State of Jefferson (Northern California) decide if they wish to remain in the Union, and if they do, then we will carve out that as a State, much the same way that West Virginia was made into a State. But, the rest of it can go.
That U.S. government owns 47.8% of CA's landmass. I'm sure an arrangement can be made. Besides, the North State, aka the State of Jefferson, along with the eastern counties, would remain with the union anyway.
Where I would not mind to see their massive electoral votes leave....I would like to make them fight for it. Because I doubt they have the stomach to fight for anything.
The eastern counties would remain with the US as well. The only part that needs to be excised is the pink region seen in Post #33.

It is time to enforce federal laws and put those in cali who do not comply with federal law in prison. The governor needs to be impeached, tried in federal court for felonies and jailed for life.

Sorry. Lincoln annexed WV in 1863 when Virginia seceded as a buffer. This was a constitutional move since Virginia was no longer part of the union. WV was one of 2 states Lincoln annexed territory from a seceded state.
1. Not sure why you’re comparing it to the UK, which has been in existence for centuries.
2. Israel’s formation and continued existence have come with extensive help from the U.S. Further, I would never favorably compare the uber-libs in coastal Cali with the hard working farmers of Israel, who strove to make that land fruitful.
Ant attempt at secession will be met with military occupation and the returning of California to the status of a U.S. possession.
