Anout 15% of homeless are mentally ill or addicted, which is not that many, really.

In this area we are running close to 80%. We still have generous services though.

Yes, indeed. Many remember Washington and Oregon in the day before California liberals moved there to escape the feces they dumped in their nest, only to continue their political socializing of their new state.

I do, wandered myself.

However the mentally ill wander because they make poor choices because they have...shazammmm a THOUGHT disorder.

Want to talk about the physicians, lawyers, businessmen, housewives, Alzheimer’s patients, that we have pulled off the streets after they have spent years there because, guess what! they are mentally ill?

Schizophrenics are at least 30% of homeless and bipolars at least 20% Although a small proportion of the population they are overrepresented in the homeless population because no one wants to put up with their aversive behaviors. And no one will lock them up to protect themselves and society.

I hate leftist policies that hurt people.

as someone who took the turn at Oak street and wandered away and never went back, I understand wanderlust.

What these people are doing is not wanderlust. They are given money by the government and lax vagrancy laws to destroy this country and in the process the mentally ill are hurt and killed and do hurt and kill.

Of course we have. The mentally ill are separated from any family or ability too manage their thoughts and emotions. They often cannot cook and need custodial care. When reorganized by medications they are able to function on some albeit low level.

Since they have a THOUGHT DISORDER they do not stay on their medications and they fail over and over. Leftist wet dream perpetually dependent masses.

Sleeping in your car for a month so you could reap financially is not homeless ness. It is car camping to save money. Very different from the mentally ill person who is operating from moment to moment with government monies in their hands and prey or predator to fellow citizens.

also see the rest of my responses.

What is happening is a repeat of the pattern of the 1950s-1970s, when many middle class and working class whites fled the inner cities due to high crime rates caused by minorities moving into these areas, school busing, and forced integration. There were many liberal city mayors, like Diane Feinstein in San Francisco, Jerome Cavanaugh in Detroit, John Lindsay in New York, and Ivan Allen in Atlanta, who were permissive toward crime, encouraging of welfare recipients, and catering to minority group "leaders". The reaction to extreme permissiveness was a big factor in the Republican capture of the Presidency and the Senate in 1981, the collapse of the Democrats in the South, and the rise of "law and order" mayors such as Rudy Giuliani in New York. Crackdowns on street crime in the late 1980s and 1990s led to reduced crime rates. In turn, this allowed for gentrification of older neighborhoods in inner cities where there had been fine residential buildings that had gone downhill in mid-century.

As the labor union movement in the 1930s and 1940s led to the rise of liberalism in urban politics, the gentrification of inner cities around the turn of the century led to the repopulation of formerly black, Hispanic, and working class white areas with white liberals. The new residents, allying with minority voters, elected liberals who were more extreme than those of 30-40 years ago. Keep in mind that Diane Feinstein is now considered too moderate by many of her fellow Democrats, despite decades of high ratings by liberal watchdog groups.

The one difference between now and the past is that there is a larger population of guilt-ridden whites who will accept high crime and a filthy environment as something like penance for "white privilege". Due to a higher percentage of young people not getting married and having children, there is less motivation to leave the inner city for the sake of the family. In more extreme cases, as in Germany and Sweden, women will accept being raped by Muslim scum or wear burkas. Unbelievably, London now has a higher murder rate than New York. As a result, I am not sure that there will be a conservative reaction against liberal extremism as there was in the 1980s and 1990s.

Great post.

I will add that from the turn of the century to the late sixties there were state run psychiatric facilities and state run homes for the developmentally delayed and seriously physically handicapped as well as state run nursing homes.

What is your solution to the problem you perceive?

Lock the homeless up in an institution with a Judge appointed to take them into custody?

Word you response carefully, because even though we say "liberalism is a mental disorder", liberals are more prone to say conservatism is a mental disorder and put big government muscle behind their claim.

I prefer the truth: LEFTISM is a mental disorder.

I believe that the MENTALLY ILL who cannot take care of themselves, managing their basic needs, and making poor decisions (like staying out in snowstorms with no clothes) need locked care and safety. Three hots and a cot, fresh air and safe environments with kind people.

I believe that the developmentally intellectually disabled who cannot manage their basic needs and who cannot make choices consistant with life and health, need to be cared for in a locked environment with care and safety. Three hots and a cot, fresh air farm work and safe environments with kind people.

I think that with enormous oversight these options can be useful and compassionate for the patients and add a level of safety for the public.

I am very aware of the preponderance of leftists and the harm they can do.

Hated that song for the last fifty years. Who wants to be a f***ing vagabond? Look up hobo culture, it’s not a pretty sight.

Another song glorifying hobo culture was "King of the Road."
