Trump has the power and Constitutional authority to order troops on the border. This will immediately kill the narrative that he is separating families and stop the problem at the source. And it puts pressure on the Democrats.
The political question becomes: If you militarize the border, what do you do with the illegals you catch?
The funny thing is, Mexican soldiers are known to be active on the Southern border, even occasionally crossing it while said to be working with the cartels.

I really (naively) thought that as a patriotic American President that George W. Bush was going to do just that on 9/12/2001, after all, we had been attacked and we were at war..............

On 9/12/01 I was at a gas station here in California and some dipwad contractor pulled up with about 3 illegals in the truck bed.
I said, “that’s over with from here on out” and he just blinked at me with an uncomprehending look.
One day later Bush re-opened the border so his precious Compadres could flood back in to threaten us and take over.
That was the day I realized I had been duped by the pathetic Bush grifter gang, and the next election I wrote in Mickey Mouse instead of voting for that dimwit.
The Rat party candidate was beneath contempt, and never a choice.
Let’s solve several problems at once. We have illegal aliens pouring across the border and don’t have the political will to deal with them once they get across. Our military is always needing training ranges. They never have enough actual time to train.
So, condemn a band 20 miles deep along the entire border. Turn it into overlapping aerial target ranges, bombing ranges and artillery and machine gun practice ranges. Ensure that every five-mile stretch (or pick another number) has at least one high explosive detonation every 24 hours. Have periods of intense areal bombardment at random times along random stretches of border daily or weekly.
We would not only cut down the flow of of illegals, we’d have the best trained military on the planet. :-) ;-)
Using the military is a waste of time. Illegals know that they’re not armed and the few that are armed don’t carry locked and loaded. Rules of engagement suck....

YES! How is it we can-and do- protect South Korea’s border from North Korea but not our own? Barbed wire, armed guard towers,tanks...whatever it takes. Protect THIS country from invasion-and fill up some C-130’s with the currently held invaders. Parachutes and low flying over Mexico and problem solved.
This is how the Navy does drug interdiction on the open ocean; They have an assigned CG officer that has the power to make arrests. A US Navy officer cannot arrest anyone but CG Officer can!

I agree with everything - except the exclusion zone needs to be 50 miles deep, all of it in what is currently Mexican territory.

That would help immensely with about 1/2 of the problem. The question
becomes how do we attack the other 1/2 which is visa overstays mainly
from the Far East, Pacific regions? They come in on legal visas but fail
to leave when the visa has expired.
Build a landing strip capable of launching 787 and as soon as the plane fills up, drop these people back at their country of origin. Take the amount for the trip off the total aid that country gets. Problem solved. Those countries will police their own borders.

Their borders aren’t the problem. We allow them to come in legally via visas.
They don’t leave when the visa has expired. Many come in to do specific jobs
with a specified time limit. When the time limit is up they stay here.
Declare war on Mexico for their invasion. They have 20% of their population having invaded the USA.
