I’ve read that long married couples are known to get legally divorced, but remain together,in order to get more in Social Security benefits.

I had wondered if the Captain and Tenille had done that to protect Tenille's assets from Daryl Dragon's Parkinson's costs.

Ive read that long married couples are known to get legally divorced, but remain together,in order to get more in Social Security benefits.I can't see a problem with that - they both paid in and would be entitled to more than they get as a married couple - last year my benefits went up about $40 and my wife's stayed the same...
On the flip side, depending on how things are done, the one getting less may not be able to tap the higher amount if the one getting more dies first after a divorce.
