I think it’s hard for Trump to find any decent lawyers willing to destroy their social lives by becoming Trump’s lawyer.
Mueller raided Cohen’s offices and probably has much incriminating evidence of Cohen’s illegal actions not related to Trump.
Today Cohen is Muller’s bitch that just wants to stay out of jail.
This is all about Muller trying to make Cohen fabricate evidence against Trump.
They could download the digital file. I mean, do they hand over tape recorders?

Trump may have his own recording but it may be considered doctored thus cohen's source may be needed.
I don't know if Trump has a physical recording. He has a photographic memory so he may not need one. Then again he knows what he said and when he said it.

I’m sure I read the missing part of the sentence was about Trump stating about writing a check for record keeping purposes. Cohen proposed a cash transaction. But I can’t come up with the source at the moment.
I am sure that in this digital age, SOME lawyers use the latest ‘digital’ device and can easily download the file to a thumb drive.
HOWEVER, not all lawyers use this new technology in this way. Many stick with tried and true techniques/equipment because... they already have it and it still works, so why throw it away and spend more money.
Lastly, the JUDGES may not accept ‘digital’ recordings. They may require ‘audio tape’ because they have the equipment to play the old audio tapes.
It used to be that Judges would not accept ‘computer printouts’ of data and insisted on typewriter generated documents.
If your ‘recording device’ is for the purpose of providing ‘evidence’ in a courtroom, it is then up to the JUDGE to decide what ‘formats’ are allowed. Usually that means you must use the same ‘type’ of equipment that the courtroom has.

Even if the allegations were true, there’s no criminal activity involved. This whole enterprise is about undermining the Trump administration. They’re looking to influence the court of public opinion, not the justice system.
