Yeah, the MA "Damnregistry" (as it was universally known when we first got there) improved tremendously between 1980 and 2000.

When I went to get a Real ID drivers license in Arizona, the lady freaked. My birth certificate had me as _______, II. But my Dad died when I was young, and for 50+ years I haven't used "the second". So...none of my bills matched my birth certificate! It took an extra 30 minutes to get a supervisor to accept the idea that someone might have gone 50 years without using their FULL BIRTH CERTIFICATE name on their utility bills.

Meanwhile, getting a passport was easy. It also lasts longer than my "Real ID'. In the future, when my Real ID expires, I'll just use my passport. IF I ever fly in the US again.

I just did that. My DL needs renewed by the end of September. We have a few DMV’s in town and then 1 in each outlying town. I tried for an appointment a month out and it was too late. Closest appointment I could get in town was past my bday so I checked all the outlying DMV’s and finally got an appointment before my bday....barely. I’ve already done all the paperwork online so we’ll see how fast it is.
I had an appointment recently to change the name on one of our vehicles. I made the appointment over a month out but when I got to the DMV the line was out the door and around the parking lot. All Mexicans or Middle Easterns sitting in chairs in the parking lot. I thought...oh crap, I’m gonna be here all day. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes while I waved at all the SUCKERS when I left. lol
I really hope the Real ID stuff is almost as fast.
