The rebels and isis are in Idlib. So of the western allies attack Latakia, home of a Russian base. It’s really looking like the west is wanting a nato/russia conventional fight while simultaneously protecting isis.

nuts

A Russian maritime patrol aircraft with multiple personnel on board was inadvertently shot down by Syrian regime anti-aircraft artillery on Monday after the Syrians came under attack by Israeli missiles, according to a US official with knowledge of the incident

The US official said the regime was actually trying to stop a barrage of Israeli missiles. A second official confirmed that Israel was responsible for the missile strikes on the Syrian regime.

The Russian state news agency TASS reported that a Russian IL-20 military aircraft with 14 personnel on board disappeared over the Mediterranean on Monday. According to TASS, the ministry of defense specified that “the mark of IL-20 went off the radars disappeared during the attack of four Israeli F-16 aircraft on Syrian targets in the province of Latakia.”

Looking for a more reliable source.

Looks kind of like a super-long-stretched C-130...

obviously superior, modern Russian technology that we’re supposed to be afraid of.

Then there’s this report:

Russian airspace control systems have registered missile launches from a French frigate in the Mediterranean on Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

The French Navy’s newest frigate, FS Auvergne, fired rockets around 8pm GMT Monday, the Russian military said. “Airspace control has recorded rocket launches from the French frigate Auvergne,” the ministry’s statement read. The Auvergne is deployed in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Syria.

Syria is the most convoluted, twisted mess I have ever seen - and moreso that any scenario leading up to the previous world wars - and this little tinderbox could be that “next” hotbed to start something FAR bigger. Think about it:

Syria, without the US, Israel, or Russia still has the following within its borders:

— The dictator Assad who may or may not have actually used chemical weapons on his own people.
—ISIS/ISIL - one of the worst of the Islamic terrorist groups
—Al Qaeda - another formerly thought to be nearly gone terrorist groups - and have been supported by some strange bedfellows.
—Possibly Iran
—Various other splinter anti-Assad Rebel groups, some with dangerously-close ties to Al Quaeda or ISIL/ISIS.

Now - this itself is an amazingly complicated stew of insanity. Throw in Russia who is backing Assad, supposedly against terrorists + Israel who hates Assad AND the terrorist groups so is running attacks that are a bit odd to my thinking. Now - throw in the US and our allies who are against Assad, sort of... but supposedly against the terrorists too (who make up the majority of the so-called “rebels”)... and never mind the Obama Administration’s former funding and arming of many of those terrorist militias...

And now - the possibility that FRANCE shot down a Russian aircraft?

I’m not even sure who is supposedly on “our” side any longer - and if we even ought to be involved.

CNN and the “Deep State” at the Pentagon are not reliable sources.

I’ve been looking for the BBC story on this and they seem mum at this point.

Israel’s reporting is sparse with the “Haaretz” defense reporters writing a very terse story with none of the Russian aircraft aspect in it and as always no Israeli admission of the attack even though the Pentagon says they did it.

The plane was 35 miles off the coast. No Syrian anti air “artillery” has that range. Syrian S-200’s anti air missiles do, but they are supposed to be integrated with Russian air defense network.

I still think this is the most likely explanation, that the network failed somehow.

A military version of the IL-18 airliner of late 1950’s vintage. Roughly comparable to a Douglas DC-6.

That is a rough looking plane; especially the engines. Needs a little grinding, body filler and paint.
