The first estimates from the Air Force on the proposed new Space Force branch of the military put the cost at around $13 billion over 5 years.
On Monday, The Associated Press obtained a memo dated Sept. 14 from Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson, which called for a lethality focused organization that will field space superiority capabilities.
The President has clearly communicated his desire for a military department for space, Wilson wrote. Strategic competition with Russia and China is the focus of our approach.
The memo states that in its first year the Space Force would cost $3.3 billion. The total cost over five years would be $12.9 billion. The new branch would employ an estimated 13,000 people. It would be a separate department overseen by a president-appointed civilian secretary. The department would be responsible for the preparation of forces necessary for the effective prosecution of war and would deal with missile defense.

How much are we saving on not paying money to the PLO? Seems like that money could go toward the Space Force.
Maybe the Space Force can provide real time data regarding illegal border crossings?
Well worth it for the future which is coming no matter what.
Hell, I can do that with a $1000 drone.
Maybe 300 drones with 4 shifts covering their operation.
Still pretty cheap on the observation side.
I know some people make fun of the Space Force, and I must agree the name is giggle worthy. That said, space is no different really than the land, sea, or sky. If American military power cannot extend into space, we are incredibly vulnerable. Consider just the GPS satellite network. There is much more.
We have to be able to defend space, as funny as that sounds.
Cheap at twice the price.
I volunteer as long as I get vindaloo, papadums, & plenty of lager!
Fingers crossed the chain of command is naval ranks
Wow! That’s a great deal! Get a move on, then!
‘Gotta get up there.
Just imagine how many illegal aliens that could finance.
Women and children hardest hit. My opinion, take the money from the worthless UN.
