Several years ago I mentored a girl in state custody (foster care) who was removed from her home due to her mental health and her fathers inability to pay for the treatment needed. The girl was from the working class and the Midwest.
She told me a little about the situation that started her issues. It was similar to what Ford describe only it did end in rape. The trigger for the downward spiral and meltdown was the response she received when she confided in her mother.
This kid lost 10 months to institutions and had to repeat a year of high school. Due to a lot of hard work, especially by the girls father, she is OK.
THAT is someone whos life has been derailed by sexual assault.
I know of similar story about an adult woman who was raped
She had problems just going out of her house for months afterward. Counseling really does help in situations like this.
