The Game of October Surprises
Gary Gindler Chronicles ^ | November 1, 2018 | Gary Gindler

Enter Trump’s October move.

Unlike the pseudo-bombing panic, which was badly improvised, Trump's immigration surprise has been prepared for several months.

A week before the election, President Trump announces that he is preparing an Executive Order that children born in the United States will not automatically obtain American citizenship in the future. Citizenship will be given only to those children whose parents are in the United States legally. These include only American citizens and legal residents.

Of course, all other news was instantly squeezed out of the air – such are the laws of the news cycle. At the same time, Trump can no longer rush with the Executive Order. His goal is political. He knows that 2/3 of Americans support his decision, and he is well aware that a long-term legal battle with Democrats who mostly represent the interests of immigrants rather than citizens of America is coming.

At the moment Trump is not interested in the decisions of the American courts. It is quite possible that he will even lose in the courts. However, the White House understands that you need to win the mid-term elections first, and then deal with legal issues.

Trump's immediate goal is not a game of immigration and intellectual tug-of-war with the Democrats, but the November mid-terms.

President Trump plays 3d chess while the rats play tiddly-winks.

I am pretty certain he laughs at them while he falls to sleep at night.

President Trump plays 3d chess

It seems like he doesn't waste time with chess and just keeps on kicking over the board.

Not chess, but jujitsu. Using his opponents attacks to defeat them.

The media’s focus usually is not on the complex substance of policy: it’s on the easier-to-digest personal politics. Who’s up? Who’s down? Who’s going to WIN over these other guys..?

And Trump is naturally like that, too: “I’m going to WIN over the other guy...”

This means any Trump stuff is natural catnip for the media: they can’t help but cover it, with the effect that ANYTHING Trump wants to advertise —for free— will get the publicity that HE wants.

He’s getting them eyeballs, money, and in the process they are getting HIS policies and pet causes publicity.

He is USING them and he is PERFECTLY put together in order to keep treating them like “Johnny Shoeshine”, his little b*tch.

He is a male version of Paris Hilton, only more so, and with brains and patriotism.

Citizenship will be given only to those children whose parents are in the United States legally. These include only American citizens and legal residents.

These two sentences are contradictory.

People here on tourist visas, or visitors from countries where a tourist visa is not required, are also in the United States legally, which would make their children born here US Citizens.

What we do need, however, is a new law clarifying the difference between naturalized birthright citizens, and natural-born citizens.

Children of legal resident aliens would be naturalized citizens, but children with at least one US citizen parent (naturalized or natural-born) would be a natural-born citizen, eligible for the Presidency.

Not bases upon what I have read for over 8 years.

That was the problem with Obama-—his father was NOT an American citizen. We also have NO real proof that Obama was born in Homolulu.

A decision on this needs to also get to the UUSC.

Ablsolutely, and with Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, we should get a reasonable, constitution-based decision.

That was the problem with Obama-—his father was NOT an American citizen. We also have NO real proof that Obama was born in Homolulu.

The controversy over Obummer was that because of the laws in effect at the time of his birth, if he was born in Kenya instead of Hawaii, his mother would have to had resided in the United States for at least 10 years, 5 of which after the age of 16 in order to confer citizenship to him. She was 18 when Obummer was born, so if the birth was not in the U.S., he wouldn't be a citizen.

That law has subsequently been changed, so now the mother (or father) can confer citizenship to her/his child as long as s/he resided in the United States for at least 5 years, two of which after the age of 14.
