She lived in welfare housing. There were roaches. There were so many roaches they required WEEKLY insecticide spraying.

Her grandfather lived nearby and didn’t like that:

He invited them to stay with him.

He was very religious and required the kids to read the bible on a very regular basis, later getting quizzed. Their S/M/L hot chocolate alottment depended on the quality of their answers.

She later went to public school where she felt she had to hide her faith background. She put it on hold for a long time.

She had a guy friend, later getting a BF (a different person). The original guy friend felt somehow jilted. He was mad. Drunk with some friends, he called her up with caller block; the 4 left threatening messages.

At school, she played the messages for her philosphy teacher, who referred her to the principal, who referred her to the cops.

It turned out the son of a POLITICIAN was one of the four voices, so the FBI got involved:

Suddenly it was a yuuuuuuuge news story. Her face became known. She became a sorta famous VICTIM. She’d be introduced to folks and they would recognize her.

The victim role freaked her out. It felt confining.

She became anorexic for over four years and was withdrawn.

Yoga helped her conquer that. Suddenly she realized how destructive this VICTIM MENTALITY was:

That was her start.

Good comment, gaijin. Talking about that incident with the four boys, I heard her say that it was one of those things that in years past, you give the boys holy hell for what they did, but you don't stigmatize them the rest of their lives.

They did something stupid. But you move on. That's what Americans do. Quite a story.

VICTIM MENTALITY

There is no greater chain and block to success than “I can’t”
