Even in light of my post in this thread, I am no where near a pro with this topic.. But I am confused, and you look like the FReeper I can turn to for an answer.

At the federal level, if you do completely fabricate an AR9 low end, you have to number it to be used in a pistol ?

What about things like 1911 blanks? These don’t require numbers, but an AR9 lower built for pistol does ? I’m confused.

Are you fishing to for an alternative motive? Why would a Popo officer ask for advice about firearms on a blog? Lastly, if you are that behind the power curve I would recommend you buy a factory build. I have a hunch your intent does not match your written intentions. Why else would you specifically ask about AR-9 and SBR’s. We all know the Freeper is a conservative site that gets infiltrated quite frequently. Your question looks more like a sting operation that is poorly concocted by a collage student needing extra credit from the social engineering professor.

Over the last 70 years I've disassembled, cleaned and made minor repairs on lots of handguns and rifles. I have no doubt I could manage to build almost any gun, given written instructions and parts. However, I would do it only under the most extreme circumstances. My advice is buy one from a reputable source. Then you know it will work, and you've recourse with the manufacturer of there's a problem.

“I live in a small apartment in NYC, and I only have tools necessary to hang pictures on my walls.”

YOU’RE INSANE.

While it’s the law that you can do certain things, the biggest problem with having such a weapon in NYC is not in the law, it’s in the perception.

You can’t carry it with you. Even in a legal manner. Yes, the courts say one thing but could you imagine being stopped in midtown with such a weapon ? Or ANY weapon? You would be on the front page of every mag in the first world - as a criminal (Even though you aren’t). If you are seen having such a weapon the police will just shoot you from a distance and be hailed as heroes.

This looks like a really, really bad idea in that horrible sh!tpit of a city. And I worked in midtown for 4 years and lived right over the CT border so I know the scoop when it comes to NYC. I seriously, seriously wouldn’t do this.

You caught me. I joined this forum in 2001 (check my profile page) and have been laying in wait to post this thread to complete my social engineering experiment!

I'd keep going on the level of stupidity of your comment, but you spelled "college" wrong so I think you've done a pretty good job of discrediting yourself.

Oh ! And one more thing !

These short “rifles” where people hold them like a rifle... They also tend to shoot their fingers off. I’m not saying that it’s guaranteed - but for some reason people do this. And not just 2 or 3 people a year - but HUNDREDS of people shoot their fingers off with short barreled firearms.

With my AR pistol barrel I have a hand guard, and I love wielding it in my shoulder in tight spaces. With this the barrel is so short that if one did attempt to shoulder it I fear the hand angles would get your hands pretty close to the muzzle.

This should be fired like a pistol, and not shouldered. That’s my take on it anyway.

It’s pretty easy to put together the lower yourself.

Then just look for a good deal on the upper and you can have it shipped to your house.

I understand where you're coming from, but I do not plan on carrying this weapon. That would be really, really stupid.

I also do not plan on living in NYC or NYS for much longer. I can retire shortly and will be moving south. Being a LEO allows me to possess certain items others cannot in my jurisdiction. I didn't say life was fair, but that's the way it is.

Ok, just please don’t carry this. in PA I “Can” carry my AR pistol like anything else - but I don’t because the police are so squirrely about it that I imagine they would just open fire on me if they saw it.

in NYC it’s ten times worse. If they see a folding knife in your pocket they’ll open fire.

But yeah, I know lots of LEO in the NE and they are given special privileges - even if they aren’t in writing. Some NJ a-hole cop retired and moved out here and now buys guns left and right - I sold him my LCP. He said “I’m an ex cop, and I don’t think anyone should have these guns. Only people like me should have these.”

That’s what I think of LEO in the NE. I haven’t met more than a handful of them I can actually respect.

Click bait? I don't think that means what you think it means. I posted a vanity, not a link to my personal blog (which I don't have).

I'm well aware of the legality of certain firearms in certain jurisdictions, thank you very much.

Not sure why you would even sell a gun to a jerk-off like that. Quite honestly, I can’t stand very many cops. Rest assured I am completely pro 2A and believe everyone should be able to defend themselves against both the type of people I arrest as well as the types of people in the govt who would infringe on our rights.

If you have a tabletop, a hammer and a 1/16” pin punch, you can assemble an AR lower. Most uppers are already fully assembled. Watch a couple of youtube videos on how to assemble an AR lower. It’s easy.

That is only true if you complete an 80% lower. A stripped lower must be sold on a 4473 from a federally-licensed dealer.

True. I was thinking "build" as in "machine", not just assemble, but I did not make that clear. Thank you for the clarification and correction.

Tools for building the lower were very basic. I needed a razor blade, a pencil, and a specialty wrench. The specialty wrench I used was actually a tool from my Beer Tab cleaning kit. Fit perfectly.

This was for locking the buffer tube to the lower. Sure other/standard wrenches would work well, just a higher chance of scratching.

BUY...
the downside of a mistake is too far down..
if you want to learn to be a gunsmith, then by all means do so

a friends husband recently tried to make an edger out of a weed wacker..

before the day was out, they amputated his lower leg from all the damage the rotary saw blade (on weed wacker) did do him

another point..
lets say your capable and will do it right. fair enough. now, how much will it cost for you to set up a room to put the weapon to be tested in a safe way in case it explodes

then there is one last part..
just cause it passes the explosion test, doesnt mean it wont fail in the 100th firing... why? cause your ability to properly temper metal would be bad compared to a manufacturer

here is the ONE exception to all of this
if you build your own using parts made by good manufactureres and which are NOT modified to assemble...

anyone disagree, let me know...
