Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.

More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.

My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.

There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.

I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.

Jane, you wrote,

“Looks like Turmeric Forte is only available through chiropractors.....unless I’ve missed something on my search. Do you have a direct source? TIA.”

1. Least expensive: I subscribe to Dr. Bruce West’s newsletter, Health Alert. It is inexpensive and his heart protocol saved me from a lifetime of medications. His website is www.healthalert.com.

If you are a subscriber, you can order all standard process and mediherb supplements at a discount.

2. Local Chiropracter sells a a discount

3. Local health food store stocks a large selection - I think they are allowed to do this because they have an alternative med practice in the same building.

4. I have occasionally seen some of their products at amazon, but more expensive and I don’t know the history.

I imagine you could contact Standard Process and find a health practitioner close to you that carries these supplements.

Best

Beta-sitosterol is for enlarged prostate as men get older.

Regharding stretching, I have multiple lower back muscle injuries. I’d advise exerstretching rather than static stretching.

I’ve read skin tags are sugar imbalance and/or thyroid imbalance related.

I will guarantee you and I travel in the same circles :)

Completely agree on all your points. I am a HUGE advocate of iodine and the supporting nutrients that go with it.

Iodine was the go to for everything until Wolff Chaikoff wrote their BS (which has been completely disputed).

To: Chuckster; All

To you and everyone else who freepmailed me - I will be busy all day today but tomorrow back on and will add everyone who wants on, and provide more info as I have time.

Just a couple ideas tossing out:

1. Personal stories of what worked for you (and what didn’t?) may be very helpful for others.

2. Maybe specific topics can be covered - warts and skin tags were mentioned, someone asked me about how I dealt with my heart condition, there are so many. With a specific topic, people can add what worked for them (see number 1) what didn’t, etc. Or what they learned about but didn’t try yet. Dealing with flu and similar respiratory ailments is very useful info, I put a lot together in the past and will dig it up. Hopefully.

3. Lists of what a person takes would likely be more useful if described what conditions they help, what are the benefits, etc.

4. I will describe how I make herb formulas (based on Ayurvedic and CTM principles), tinctures, and other things I use such as tooth powder, salves, cough syrup, facial cleanser, etc. Also I make a lot of essential oil blends for lungs, skin problems, balancing mind/emotions, detoxing or relaxing baths, etc. I don’t buy any personal care products other than Ligett’s bar shampoo, everything else I make. If others have things they make that help improve health, let’s hear about them.

Most all personal care products, including “natural” ones, contain strange ingredients that I like to avoid, so I make my own and save money.

Just some ideas...more ideas welcome, so this thread can be informative and useful.

Just tossing this out - the best stuff I know of for prostate problems is a traditional Ayurvedic formula called Gokshuradi guggulu. Many men I know have totally solved BPH - got numbers down, all symptoms gone, etc. It has other uses as well.

She’s wrong about a lot of things but I’m stuck with her because I need my medication-Armour Thyroid.

It’s hard to find a doctor that will dose correctly, let alone prescribe it.

Thyroid affects everything. I believe the reason they push Synthroid so hard is it doesn’t work nearly as well as natural and leaves many symptoms untreated, which necessitates more RX that don’t work.

Don’t get me started on the TSH test!

Fibromyalgia, IMO, is thyroid related and didn’t seem to be an issue until they started relying so heavily on the TSH test which is unreliable and lets many fall through the cracks.

The TSH test is the best thing that ever happened for big pharma.

I found one in Orlando that does what I say :D

Yeah, T4 only, which is the storage hormone, is completely ineffective, especially if you are not on the iodine protocol. Selenium is what facilitates the conversion from T4 to T3.

My husband had CHRONIC fibromyalgia and he was completely healed on the iodine protocol, which included high doses of mag malate. salt is also very good for body pain

Please include me in your ping list.

Ayurvedic medicines have helped my family a lot recently so I am very open to learning more.

Bacopa got a toddler with inordinate fears into a gregarious preschooler.
