How aspirin stops the growth and spread of colorectal cancer

Around 29 million people in the US take a daily dose of aspirin as a preventative measure for cardiovascular disease. And while an age-related increased risk of bleeding has seen it fall out of favor with medical authorities, it’s now shaping up as something that might be even more beneficial in triggering the immune system to help take down certain cancers.

There’s been a growing body of research showing that regular, long-term low-dose aspirin use was associated with better outcomes of colorectal cancer (CRC). But scientists haven’t been entirely sure just why the common over-the-counter medicine was having a distinctive and seemingly targeted effect on the growth and spread of CRC, and gathering long-term data on this area of aspirin use has been challenging.

That earlier Harvard-led study found that a regular aspirin regimen could prevent almost 11% of colorectal cancers and 8% of gastrointestinal cancers diagnosed in the US every year. Now, Italian researchers have looked at clinical and pathological records of all CRC patients operated on at Chirurgia Generale Unit in Padova, Italy, from 2015 to 2019. Of these 238 patients, 31 (13%) were considered aspirin users – those who took 100 mg of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug per day.

Part One
Cancer Happens

In February 2019 I found a lump in my R breast and immediately made a doctor appointment. She checked, there it was, hadn’t been there a year ago. Recommended mammogram, which I got, and the radiologist said it looked like cancer. I got a biopsy. Cancer, stage 3, considered aggressive. My doctor, who is a naturopath who uses natural and “regular” medical measures as needed, told me “Get that sucker out as soon as possible”. I had surgery in June, and results were a malignant and aggressive cancer almost 3 centimeters, spread beyond the milk duct, and in two sentinel lymph nodes, with cancer beyond the margins; in other words, metastasized.

Within a week or two, the surgeon called and wanted to take out all lymph nodes on the right arm. I knew I did not want that, did a quick search, and found that 30% or more people who had that surgery wound up with lymphodema, huge swelling of the entire arm and hand that has no cure or treatment. Of course, no way.

My doctor had made an appointment with a team of oncologists, which I canceled, as I knew they would recommend radiation and chemotherapy. Because I am very allergic to many things, including almost all drugs, I knew I would likely not survive such treatments. Doctor gave me a prescription for Tamoxifen, which has been widely used for three decades, with very few women getting side effects. Me? Horrible side effects, all the ones listed, and more. Between that and the drugs for general anesthesia I was like a drugged stumbling zombie for more than a month, and my cognitive functions were badly affected for months.

Nine months after the surgery my doctor ordered a blood test specific for this type of cancer, a new very sensitive test, only from Mayo Clinic. I had to drive 40 miles to the hospital for the blood test as the sample had to be flown to the clinic right away. The results were so surprising that the doctor at Mayo who saw it commented how unusual it was. Results? Not one cancer cell in the sample; 5< is considered excellent, and I had zero.

So, how was this accomplished? I took a large amount of herbs and some other supplements recommended by my doctor, and from my own herbal research. I have studied and used herbs for treating and healing many conditions for more than thirty years, and have helped several people become cancer free. Many of these herbs tasted horrible, and it was not “fun” taking them day after day, but they worked. Detailed in Part Three.

Part Two
Lessons Learned

Shortly after the biopsy results, I was overcome with a cold fear I could not shake. It was like being locked inside a walk-in freezer of fear. Prayer did not shake it. On the fourth day, I dove into prayer again and the answer was instant: “Stop thinking about yourself, think of what you can do for others

An online friend told me of a friend who had had breast cancer, and her pastor had asked her: “Have you thanked God for your cancer?” She answered that she had not, but tried doing so, and her fear and anxiety disappeared. I had been praying that I could accept this cancer as God’s arrangement, but when I actually thanked Him, I had a big change in my attitude. No longer feeling burdened or harmed, I saw that there were many lessons to learn from this “terrible” thing. Lessons like: we all have to leave this world, one way or another, either today (meteors falling from the sky?) tomorrow, or in a few decades.

I remembered hearing “learn to die before dying” - dying to our own will, our own plans, thinking “I am the master of my life” or ‘I am in control”. Learning to trust in God’s will, His plans, His love and His protection. Lessons such as really caring for those in my life, as I might not have a lot of time left; realizing that things such as “my” house, “my” property, “my” trees (I live in a fir forest) - even my body - are not really “mine”, they are loaned to me for a while. Sooner or later we have to leave all earthly assets (and troubles!) behind. Attachment to my husband - of course this was the biggest - having spent three decades with my best friend on earth - thinking of leaving him, or him being left alone, was painful. This helped both of us experience more deeply that the Supreme Lord is the best friend of everyone, He will never leave us, His protection is always there for those who turn to Him, and He is in ultimate control of everything. His love is eternal, and even if “alone” in the world, He is in our hearts waiting for us to turn to Him. I knew He would take care of my husband if I had to leave the world, and that He would take care of me in this life and beyond.

Funny thing - since I was young, I always feared getting cancer. I have had many health issues and problems - some chronic, some temporary, I won’t bother listing them! Pain and and physical suffering have been old companions for a long time. But cancer? The thought of cancer had always give me the cold chills. Now after experiencing the lessons above, I feel little fear from anything anymore. Having to face the possible loss of “everything” - I am much more peaceful and fearless.

Part Three
What I Took and What I learned later that help

The ones with * I took daily for months. Most effective are using powdered herbs if possible, mixing into liquid or water, honey can be added for improving taste, and also helps energize herbs. If the taste is bothersome, than capsules or tablets are fine. It is important to be very regular, and to take sufficient quantity of herbs.

*1. Turmeric - powerful anti-inflammatory, many uses, also anti-cancer – at least 1 teaspoon or more daily
I took about 2 teaspoons or more a day. I put /1/2 teaspoon in every cup of herbs, about four cups a day of herbs. Must be taken with a bit of black pepper and drink some milk with it, to be absorbed. Turmeric has many medicinal benefits and is a good addition to anyone’s diet.

*2. Green tea, especially Matcha powder –has strong anti-cancer properties
I do not like green tea, but the Grocery Outlet here had ItoEn brand Japanese green tea matcha powder so I took it daily. It’s not cheap but one bag lasts a long, long time. I took 1 t. a day and people who like it could take more. The farm that grows this tea is on the southern tip of Japan far away from Fukushima. Most green tea is from China but Japanese can be found. Matcha tea is harvested and prepared specially and is more potent medically. People mix it in all kinds of foods but most effective taken in liquid.

*3. Turkey tail mushrooms - has several latin names:
Trametes versicolor, Coriolus versicolor and Polyporus versicolor - but usually in herbs it’s called Turkey Tail or Coriolus versicolor. I bought on Amazon. It stimulates the immune system and is widely taken for cancer. As with all herbs or supplements I recommend avoiding anything from China. Take dosage recommended on the bottle, more will not cause any harm.

6. Flax seeds are especially for breast or prostate cancer, but considered helpful with cancer in general. Women who eat at least 3 Tablespoons of Flax seeds daily are less likely to get breast cancer, and it helps treat it. They can be ground eaten and mixed in cottage cheese or other foods, baked into muffins, or however one can get them down. Sadly my digestive system could not tolerate them (most people have no problem). They are very healthy and nutritious for anyone.

*6. Shatavari - This Ayurvedic herb is become popular, it is especially helpful for women, as well as for breast or prostate cancer. I took 1 to 2 teaspoons daily and it does not taste bad which is helpful.

*7. Vitex/Chaste Tree Berry - helps protect and reduce lumps in breast, also anti-cancer in general.

*8. Red Root extract - used for lymphatic problems including cancer, and useful even if lymph nodes may not be directly involved in cancer.

Recommended by my Naturopath MD, considered to be helpful for cancer as well as helping with sound sleep. Use standard dosage. I react badly to it (very rare) so couldn’t use.

Recommended by my Dr, said to help scavange cancer cells in the system and remove from the body. Especially useful before and after surgery, biopsy or other procedures. I used this brand, there are many others.

I did not know about Quercetin when I had cancer, but it sounds like something to add. I is useful for many infectious illnesses including viruses like flu or covid.

The two medicines below I did not try for cancer as I had no information about them.

I have met a person online in remission from melanoma who does an Ivermectin treatment four times a year to keep it in remission.

Some anti-parasite medicines have been helpful in treating cancer, difficult to get doctors to prescribe so people are using the animal version which is much cheaper and exactly the same:

Ivermectin -I do not have any specific dosage infrom. It is a very safe drug. Links to info on Ivermectin and cancer. Ivermectin is commonly used for parasite infections, as well as bacterial and virus infections including covid.

What amazes me still is I kicked it with herbs only, and the Doc at Mayo who looked at my bloodwork was amazed that there was not one cancer cell left. Thankfully now people know about Ivermectin, which is really a lot easier than herbs. But they can likely help with prevention. I take a LOT of herbs every day for strength, brain, heart, circulation etc.
