...who remembers the last time a Washington baseball team played in the World Series. It was in 1933, 86 years ago. The next time is tonight.
During 33 of those years, we didnt even have a baseball team in Washington. That makes the dry spell a little less remarkable, though perhaps even more painful. But even a 53 year dry spell is massive (longer than the one experienced by the Cleveland Indians 1954 until 1995 but not as long a wait as Chicago Cubs fans endured 1945 until 2016).
Actually, Ted Lerner, owner of the Washington Nationals, was alive in 1933. He was almost eight years old when that World Series took place. Reportedly, however, he has no recollection of the event. His baseball memories begin in 1937 when the all-star game was played at Griffith Stadium.
Anyone who has watched even one of the Nats post-season games this year probably knows the basic story of the team (those who havent watched at least one probably dont care). Four times in recent years, we crashed out of the playoffs in the first round. This years team began the season by winning only 19 of its first 50 games.

I honestly don't know what to expect fromm this series. The Astros may well win in a sweep. The Nationals may do the same. I do think the Nationals momentum has been blunted by a week off.
PLAY BALL!
The team with the most trannies will win.
Im a Cardinal fan but Ill root for the Nats. They played a great series in the NLCS. The pitching for both teams is excellent. The team with the fewest errors and walks will probably win it. I figure 7 games. A new World Series champ would be nice. Hope the refs dont screw it up for either team.
The Nats are on a Mission from God.
If the Astros were the best team in 2019 well, the Nats may well have been the second best, after you write off their disastrous start.
The Nats are probably being underestimated. In the preseason, most people had picked them to win the NL East. Yes, Atlanta had a great year, but the Nats also lost Zimmerman, Rendon and Turner for much of the first half, and their opening day bullpen turned out to be bad beyond belief. They completely rebuilt the bullpen at the trading deadline and got their injured players back. Take those factors off the table and the Nats would probably have been a 100 win team as well. Their comeback after May 23 was historic.
My take? There is spectacular starting pitching on both sides. It'll come down to who cracks first. A coin flip. I'd wager a buck on the Nats, but not much more.
This is the first ever World Series appearance, for the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals franchise. Not sure if any other teams in baseball besides Seattle’s Mariners, have never been to the World Series.
Being an old school guy, I can’t stand this wild card stuff. In my mind, best record in the NL plays the best record in the AL in the World Series. No division series, no championship series, no one game playoff.
Best record, period.
The Mariners have never been. They are the only team not to have played in one.
I agree to a point but.... Back in the day there were only 16 teams total in MLB. No more. But one round of playoffs should be enough. This Wild Card - Division Series - Championship Series is too much.
And don’t get me started on Stage racing
Nah. My best 25 against your best 25. Have the AAA callup in september but this “rent a player” stuff sucks.
No playoffs, best record, period.
But I’m a stubborn guy who watched baseball in the 60’s (Bob Gibson) and 70’s.
Bump
Next it will be who the LGBTQTXYZABC crowd likes at the end of a stage for 60% of the points.
Gimme Dale, Darrel and Bobby fighting turn 4 to the checkered.
Trivia:
The Montreal Expos became the Washington nationals.
Well the DH rule is my pet peeve but 4 hour games is a close second.
GO NATS! WOOHOO!
I’d go but tickets are scary expensive!
I actually went to an Expos game in Montreal on business back in the day.
It was like the stadium was empty, we were in the second row behind 3rd and
hardly anyone was behind us. No one is in the upper decks.
I know I checked them out too. $700 just to stand on the outfield patio level. I couldn't do it...
This is kind of a weird memory.
About 25 years ago, I traveled to Tonowanda, NY for work. My first night I had a beef and Weck sandwich. (Thin sliced beef, salty weck bun, horseradish and aus jus.)
It was memorably good. The next time I saw beef and weck on a many was tonight. Thats what I ordered.
The guy I met with in Tonowanda played baseball for the Washington Senators. 1940s I think.
I like some aspects of stage racing. But throwing the caution at the stage end is just stupid.
They should keep racing.
