What is a "quid pro quo"? It literally means "something for something", in other words it is simply a transaction in which something is exchanged for something else, presumably of value.
In diplomacy, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with a "quid pro quo", it is the standard way of leveraging our foreign aid. For instance, "US aid will be withheld unless you stop harboring terrorists". This is an entirely reasonable approach, and by far the biggest justification for the seemingly endless billions we spend on foreign aid.
Where things get dicey, is when an elected official uses a quid pro quo for personal reasons. That is the charge against President Trump, that he asked for investigations into Burisma and the Bidens that personally benefited him, rather than for other reasons. (Note: As long as there were other, legitimate reasons for the investigations, any benefit to President Trump is simply "icing on the cake".)
The facts, as generally known, are this:
Neither having been VP, nor running for President, exempts Joe Biden from investigation into (rather obvious) corrupt behavior.
There is a standing agreement between the US and Ukraine regarding investigating corrupting in Ukraine.
President Trump was entirely within his rights to ask for a corruption investigation into Hunter and Joe Biden, and Burisma. There is clearly no impeachable issue, "quid pro quo" or not.
The only reasonable conclusion is that the "impeachment inquiry" is a sham intended to make President Trump look bad, and to lower his popularity going into the 2020 election. I don't believe the Dems will let things go to the Senate, since then the Trump Team would be able to call and cross-examine witnesses, including Schiff, the Bidens, and the whistleleaker. It's worth noting also that other prominent politicians seem to be involved with Ukraine, including Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, and (wait for it) Mitt Romney. There is genuine desperation to get rid of President Trump before all this comes out. That is not to mention the coming criminal indictments over FISA abuse and 2016 election meddling.
The bottom line? I think most Americans see this sham for exactly what it is. As long as President Trump continues to stand strong, I believe he'll prevail.
In fact, I think it'll all end with #TrumpLandslideVictory2020!
Correctamundo.
The President of the United States is no longer allowed to negotiate with other world leaders?
The President of the United States is no longer allowed to negotiate with other world leaders?
~~~
The media’s response to that is that he is not allowed to seek out corruption among anyone from the democrat party, because it can help him politically, and if any of those democrats are going to be potentially running against him in the future (which is possibly hundreds of them) then he has to keep his hands off.
In other words, the media are shills and guardians for democrat corruption. Anyone, particularly the President, who attempts to expose their corruption is corrupt.
Get it?
The Clintons are the masters at quid pro quo, and pay for play. They probably started it in Arkansas, but we saw it early on in the 90’s when they traded Lincoln Bedroom sleepovers, and held coffee klatches in the White House dining room for campaign donations. along with selling pardons to fugitives, and the list goes on, and on. Of course Clinton’s pardon of Marc Rich was on his last day in office, but there were plenty of other impeachable offenses over the eight years that were never explored.
The Dems are sending a message to all future Republicans , shut up or you’ll get the same ,we control this country
Yes, this whole thing is a sham, aimed at ignorant people, the products of an education by Democrat teacher unions.
QPQ statute? Is it next to the collusion statute near the “talking to foreign heads of state” statute? Over near the right to abortion amendment just past the no one NEEDS an AR15 clause?
Why wait for, or count on, the Senate to look into Biden’s corruption? That is a job for law enforcement. Would not be surprised if it is already inprocess.
As for investigations in search of a crime, those tend to be on the increase. Is that not the same thing as a traffic screen for DUIs? We’ve gotten lost in the weeds with our jurisprudence, and it did not happen overnight.
Trial by media seems more effective. Why does the media have so much power?
Yep. wWat the ‘rats are doing is like the police coming to your house because you called to report a burglary, and instead of arresting the burglar, they arrest you for interfering with his livelihood. It’s an upside down world.
Reuters- “Was there a quid pro quo? ... the answer is yes,” Sondland said.
I am listening to the hearing and Schiff is closing. He claims he knows what Trump is thinking. Neat trick huh?
"That is the charge against President Trump, that he asked for investigations into Burisma and the Bidens [??? emphasis added] that personally benefited him, rather than for other reasons."
The 12th Amendment does not recognize presidential nominees of constitutionally undefined political parties, Biden just another politically correct candidate for POTUS imo.
Excerpted from the 12th Amendment: "The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President [emphasis added], and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice- President, and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate; [ ]"
Next, treaty between USA and Ukraine promotes mutual support for investigating corruption.
