Speculation on other peoples' motives is almost always a mistake. If behavior has bad consequences, the main fous should be the causation, not a digression into other individual's motives for pursuing that causation. Destroying a people's heritage is not more acceptable if the destroyers actually believed they were doing something idealistic. Not one whit more acceptable!
