Is Trump a great innovator in democratic leadership? How well are his methods working now in the crisis of the pandemic?

I believe that getting herd immunity as quickly as possible is the best path for nations which wish to survive Coronavirus and prosper.

The personal credentials I bring to this are 3 decades as a health care professional and amateur work as a creative artist (including at Douglas MacArthur’s waterhole in Morotai, Indonesia) dealing with themes of nationhood, WW2 and freedom.

But I don’t think what I know gives me a lock on what to do in this unprecedented situation.

I am not God. Just one guy putting out my point of view.

2 relevant fundamental beliefs I hold are these:

A. Freedom works.

B. Talking honestly with people is the best way to tackle a problem.

For all of the play acting involved in his incredible showmanship, IMHO Donald Trump is wrestling with the real issues better than those who are only driven by panic and the need to appease the false PC God of Perfect Safety which has crippled debate on The Left.

As we all know, Trump puts his thoughts out there in public. Directly. To the people.

This allows him to gauge public responses.

And that is crucial to leadership in a democracy.

What do Freepers think?

Is Trump leading well in this crisis?

Is there anything in this crisis which Sleepty Joe is doing better?

Herd immunity is coming. The only question is how long it will take. It will take a lot of deaths to get there.

I don’t believe this the country is ready for the fastest solution: purposely infecting the youngest among us and working your way up by age until you reach your herd immunity goal.

I wouldn’t want to be Trump right now.

I have read a similar opinion to this from Pat Buchanan. The gist of it, as I understand it, being that the founding fathers did not put the emphasis on democracy that has since been placed on democracy.

You seemed to have missed the other part of the equation, how many people will be destroyed financially. 18,000 dead vs 16,000,000 newly unemployed.

“I wouldn’t want to be Trump right now.”

Yes. Very hard time to be POTUS.

But the democrats have given him a gift in nominating someone even older and with horrible communication skills .......

I didn’t miss that at all. Dead is dead. I think Trump will (wisely) start focusing on the economic impact of the virus.

If he does we will have a lot of deaths.
If he doesn’t we will have a lot of deaths.

I believe this author is correct.

The shelter in place orders seem to have helped to prevent the health care system from overload breakdown. The irony there is you really cannot prove it. It's just "anecdotal". But it is common sense. The best way to avoid the flu is to avoid people with the flu.

So how do you develop herd immunity in the most humane manner? When you know people will get sick and die? It seems to me that, at this moment in time, the answer lies in the HQC regimen (Chloroquine, azythromycin, zinc/copper). If not as prophylaxis, then immediately upon diagnoses and/or symptoms. Give the body a chance to build immunity. We can continue to study the drug and regimens along the way. The attempt to lock people down for months on end is probably much more dangerous over the long term, since people who did not get exposed to the virus risk exposure when the lockdown ends (or when they've had enough of it and just ignore public officials). That will bring about a prolonged cycle of disease, that Fauci calls "seasonality". Better for the healthcare system but not necessarily for the people.

Perhaps on the other side of this, the people will start to rethink the way we have allowed ourselves to be governed by bureaucrats and people with authoritarian bents/control freaks.

The US is not a democracy

I fundamentally trust Trump’s instincts

He lives America and Americans

He hates big govt nonsolutions

That said it is time for America to get back to work. Open it all up. Let each person evaluate their own risk

That completely depends on how and where hydroxychloroquine is used and how quickly we can ramp up production.

The death toll doesn’t have to be that high.

Great Point.

In round figures that is approx 1,000 cases of unemployment per death.

That challenges the idea that the right to life is an absolute right.

Dan Patrick has set a fine example IMHO: https://freedom-demokrasi-and-civilised-humanity.com/2020/03/24/potus-45-and-dan-patrick-saving-the-economy-matters-too/

The death of American freedom would be the worst single death possible.

A long leftist lockdown really would threaten that.

IMHO

Correct they have underestimated him since he came down the elevator.

But do I detect a tinge of sympathy for poor old Sleepy Joe?

Me too. It can be fun to be snarky, but cleverness can only get one so far. Need to think through the current paradigms and protocols, and the consequences and repercussions of various action that can be taken.

Let each person evaluate their own risk

That is the quintessential American attitude, and I like it. It is also Darwinist.

The only problems are the failures of the establishment and the media to embrace this same attitude. They do not seek to provide information. They do not want an informed electorate or citizenry. They want to dictate thought and behavior and throw up barriers and controls at nearly every step. That makes it much harder to be a quintessential American.

This is powerful stuff. I agree with you.

Trump himself is a profoundly instinctual guy.

But are these things you are saying too strong for that middle ground which Trump has to win from Biden to be reelected?

In the latest polls i have seen Biden is ahead. (Surely the polls couldnt get it wrong about Trump two elections running?)
