Ever since a senior official in the Trump administration penned an anonymous 2018 New York Times column attacking President Trump as unfit for office, Washington has been engrossed in a high-stakes whodunit. After an exhaustive investigation, the White House believes its cracked the case, identifying Trump's turncoat as his former deputy national security adviser, Victoria Coates, according to people familiar with the internal probe.
Rather than fire Coates, the White House has quietly transferred her to the Department of Energy, where she awaits special assignment in Saudi Arabia -- far from the president.
Trump effectively demoted Coates just four months after promoting her last fall to the No. 2 spot on his National Security Council. The move was made amid a whisper campaign, started in January, that identified Coates as Anonymous, the person who wrote the Times Op-Ed and a subsequent book, A Warning, claiming to be part of a cabal of fellow Republicans" resisting Trump and his policies from inside the administration.
The Washington press corps has for the most part been uninterested in learning the authors identity. But the sources said the identification of Coates was based on circumstantial evidence generated from a months-long White House investigation led by sleuths within the NSC. Top White House adviser Peter Navarro, who works with the NSC on trade and other issues, also was heavily involved in the probe of Coates.
She declined to discuss the matter on the record with RealClearInvestigations and has retained an attorney, friends say, although several colleagues have rushed to her defense, insisting the White House has the wrong person. But a source involved in the NSC probe who asked not to be identified said there was little doubt. Its her, the source said of Coates. Thats why she was shown the door.

Spies and traitors should be taken out and shot. That she is not in jail, that she is still collecting a US Government paycheck, and presumably in line for a US Government pension is beyond outrageous.
She serves at the pleasure of the President.
There is a reason she has not submitted her resignation.
We haven’t seen this kind of thorough investigation by outside reporters for quite a while.
At least not from the current crop of ‘journalists’, who self-proclaim themselves ‘investigative reporters’ or some such.
No kidding....Stupid.
Not offering a resignation or explanation after a story like that is a tactic admission of deep state sympathies, and that applies to Sessions too.
If Trump knows that it is Coates I am surprised he has managed to avoid talking about it.

Something that has really surprised me about Trump - he is very, very patient when he needs to be and despite what the Tweet storms might lead people to believe, he’s got good self control when he needs it. He also likes ‘revenge’.
In Coates’ case, I think ‘revenge’ is what he’s after so she’ll be sent to a miserable post and he’ll just smile to himself about it. No sense in giving the enemedia ‘red meat’ ... they’ll be screaming bloody murder (like they did with IG firing) about her “integrity”, etc. No free publicity for her via the enemedia. Just my 2 cents.

They also LOVE to pass innumerable laws that cannot possibly all be enforced, so that they can selectively enforce them, leniency for those they like, draconian penalties for those they don't like.
And the LOVE mail-in ballots and open borders.
All for the same reason.
That promotion took place after she had written the anonymous piece.
Good point. So maybe add their names to the list of people to be transferred to Lower Slobovia.
It also sends a message to the rest of the staff. If you leak, we will use all means at our disposal to find you. When we do, you will be transferred to a location/position less desirable than your current position.
Hopefully, Eric Ciaramella will soon be transferred to a CIA post in central Africa.
How in the H E double toothpicks does an art history major even begin to qualify as a national security advisor????
No do gooder was murdered.
An invader potentially carrying plagues a thousand times worse than Wu Flu was executed by the duly constituted government while attempting to break social distancing edicts.
They think that because they have some competence in one thing, usually something not practical, that they are superior to everyone
Yep. THEY ARE CALLED DOCTOR, so you better be respectful. Like the Director-General of the WHO. He IS NOT an MD. Hes a PhD In Community Health who was heavily supported for the job by Xi Jianping (sp?). He should be booted ASAP.
Peter Navarro is DJT’s No. 1 Bad Ass. I love watching him being interviewed by some smug news type, like Martha McCallum. The questions are usually not questions at all, but statements made to provoke a reaction. It’s like Navarro is in some weird time loop where he gets to hear the question thirty seconds before it’s asked, as he already has a response mapped out, which he delivers without a flinch or a second’s hesitation.

Cruz Control Countian On The Campaign Trail: Top National Security Adviser To Cruz Shares Career Influences, Local Upbringing Bio: Victoria Coates
NewspaperFebruary 18, 2016 | LNP (Lancaster, PA)
Family backs Cruz campaign
Coates is the daughter of Eugene Gardner, founder and partner of investment firm Gardner Russo & Gardner, located in Lancaster city. Her mother, Anne, and brother, Eugene Gardner Jr., also work at the firm that manages stock market investments worth $11.69 billion, according to the latest regulatory filing.
The family was the largest financial contributors to the Cruz campaign at the end of 2015, according to the latest Federal Elections Commission filings.
Among Cruz’s $28,500 raised in the county - the third-most among the candidates - the Gardners had donated $10,800.
Growing up, Coates said, politics “was always part of our lives.” Her mother was a Republican committeewoman who worked on a few local campaigns, and while her father was not involved directly with campaigns, he was supportive.
National Review writer Jay Nordlinger, who admits to being longtime friends with Coates, acknowledged the criticism of Cruz having an art historian as his national security adviser, but that it doesnt bother the candidate.

Jay Nordlinger: I Left GOP Over Trump
Never mind that a substantial cohort of the GOP professional class are backstabbing weasels...
IOW, "The Swamp"
Well, if she is outed, I hope certain folks in the media refer to her as “Turn-Coates”. She’s already got half of the phrase in place, right there in her surname.
How about Indonesia?
I hate to tell you what her nickname was in her previous assignments. It had a C, a T, and an S with two other letters.
I hope she realizes that she will not have diplomatic immunity in Saudi Arabia and that if she causes problems for the House of Saud, he will likely die in a sandstorm.
