he 2020 election will be decided in the fall by swing voters in ten or 15 states.
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, those voters were leaning to reelect President Trump, largely on the powers of incumbency and a near-record vibrant economy. The Democratic left-wing primary agendas, from the New Green Deal to reparations, the clownish candidates of the Beto ORourke and Corey Booker sort, the arrogance and meltdown of Mike Bloomberg, and Joe Bidens cognitive impairment collectively frightened voters.
Meanwhile, the booming economy, record energy production, record-low minority unemployment and reckoning with China had overshadowed Trumps cul de sac tweeting, 93 percent unfavorable media coverage, and the three-year slow-motion coup of the 25th Amendment nonsense, Russian collusion, Robert Mueller, Ukraine, and impeachment.
Then came the contagion, the lockdown, the recession, and the collective madness of looting and arson, which in turn led to the present anarchy of statue toppling, cancel culture, name-changing, and McCarthyism 2.0.
Of course, a president is blamed for chaos on his watch even if he did not create the chaos. He either stops it and is praised as a winner or, like Jimmy Carter during the Iran hostage crisis of 1979-1980, is written off as a loser.
What Stands Between the Public and Mob Rule?
The hour of reckoning is here and either Trump will crush the lawlessness and win the swing voters to his side, or he will listen to the trimmers and lose the country. Trumps dilemma, however, is real and in some sense unprecedented. We are in uncharted waters when blue-state officials dont mind the violent chaos in their midst, or at least feel that in a cost-benefit analysis it serves their November purposes more than a restoration of law and order.

Yeah well I forgot to add The Dem convention in Chicago in ‘68 too.
Yeah, in my opinion. I have never seen VDH switch so clearly from quiet philosopher mode into “folks, this is a damned serious immediate threat” mode. And I also have seen police kneeling and Generals and SecDefs speaking out in pointed public opposition to the President. So I don’t know exactly what you disagree with, but I am of course... correct on both accounts.
“I’m afraid it’s real this time - the sentiment among the middle has swung from law & order to social justice.”
And this is true -in spades- for the under 35 crowd.
“BTW, one thing he could do is move ahead and really insist on opening up the country again. “
YES, that is a secret weapon. And he has a ton he could do to effect that change. He could open ALL Federal lands, parks, forests, properties, museums etc with zero of this Covid terrorism. Full capacity, it’s on.
Now they close the beaches for the 4th of July, and we can’t celebrate of our Independence Day!? After all the very noble and brave BLM riots, CHAZ, LGBTQRR++ Pride marches where no one safely distanced themselves? Very convenient timing.
John Quncy Adams wrote: “I am apt to believe that it (Independence Day) will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.
It’s as if they planned all along to deny us our American heritage.
Nixon offered a real choice to people who feared being drafted into the Vietnam War, and wanted it over.
The rioting today does not have that same visceral motive of fear of being drafted into combat. I think it's really liberal kids spoiled by the "easy life," as VDH suggests at their fear of being prosecuted and ruining their resumes.
The target for President Trump is not the rioters, it is the liberal mayors and governors who are using the rioters as political pawns. The problem for Trump is that the MSM will focus on the violence AGAINST the rioters, and steer clear of blaming the local governments.

Not all police. The generals doing this have always been corrupt. It is just they have a President who is not playing establishment games. VDH has a great understanding of history and expresses it well. I sense not panic only the statement of historical facts.
Then he needs to get on it. My oldest who follows politics more than me says he’s not giving Americans a reason to vote for him.
Didn’t those mayors and governors take an oath to uphold the laws of our nation and to defend our constitution? Is there no legal remedy for the immediate removal of those who willfully choose to violate the terms of their oaths?
Public protest in the streets with torches and pitchforks until they resign?

Ok, way too many of the cops and Generals.
And as for VDH, call it a sense of immediate urgency. It is all his interviews now.
There are probably legal standards in place for impeachment of elected officials for criminal activity or violating their Oaths of office.
But the procedures are probably different in every Locale around the country.
And it’s likely courts would get involved; that lawsuits and some Court hearings would have to be held in order to move forward with such procedures.
I guess I’m thinking don’t hold your breath as far as anyone holding these public officials accountable. No one is going to be removed from office tomorrow for a violation of oath to uphold the Constitution.
