Flu killed nearly 10,000 Texans in 2017-2018

(EXCERPT)

In what was considered the worst season in years, the flu and related complications killed nearly 10,000 Texans in 2017-2018, according to state health officials.

The 9,470 deaths represent a spike of nearly 27 percent from the 7,459 deaths in the 2016-2017 season, and an increase of nearly 82 percent over the 5,215 deaths in 2015-2016, the only previous years when overall deaths were tracked.

The latest figures are likely not all-time highs, considering many past seasons were marked by similarly high hospitalization rates and more pediatric deaths.

“These death totals are a reminder of the toll this epidemic takes every year,” said Chris Van Deusen, director of media relations for the Texas Department of State Health Services. “It’s easy to let your guard down and see the flu as something that inevitably happens, that you get over. But lots of people don’t.”

Texas has had nearly no excess deaths this year so far.

And once again, since this virus only kills the old, there’s no point including the young in calculations. In the end the question we will have is how many additional elderly deaths does society want to endure? The negative exponential suggests it will be 650-700/day. That will be about 11% more elderly deaths per year than previous years.

Hard to tolerate, especially if they hunker down and don’t spend. They are a big chunk of national assets.

The flu doesn’t cause permanent heart, lung and/or brain damage like this virus does in a large percentage of even young people who catch it.

The flu data are for 12 months. The CV-19 data are for 6 months.

Just wait.

This cannot be right.

Fauxci and Birx and the media and the politicians have all said otherwise.

the percent is not mortality rate, it is the current percent death of the entire population.

RE: The chicken littles say, “just wait.”

OK, call me a chicken little. WE are not over the year 2020 yet, so to make a comparison to 2018 and 2019 ( AN ENTIRE YEAR ), is too premature.

And the overwhelming majority of those testing positive don’t even know they are sick.

So, as throughout history, those in high risk group or afraid seclude yourselves from every one and leave the rest of us to go about our business.

I actually think in a nutshell this whole fiasco is result of fairness. It is not fair I am not afraid and you are. So, therefore, I and all others not afraid must be made to accommodate your fear so we are equal. Because it is just not fair for you to be afraid alone.

also, any virus that causes a strong inflammatory reaction in the body, amping up the immune response very quickly, can cause serious long term problems in the body, often they see it as damage in a particular organ, or organ failure, reduced function, depends what organs are affected.

The flu can cause permanent damage. There is no evidence this virus is any more prone to causing permanent damage than any other

Covid nearly killed my wife, and she’s had plenty of flu’s. So it aint just a flu. Overhyped by the media? Of course, thats what they do. But to do the opposite is just as stupid.
