Semi-auto. I’m not a prepper, but I’m looking at going nostalgic for a M1A Standard Issue. My grandfather had an M1 Carbine that I used to shoot as a kid. I fell in love with that thing.

ImVho, the BETTER choice is a quality PUMP-rifle like the Remington Models 760 & 7600, as the slide action is about as accurate as any “factory” bolt-gun, QUICK for follow-up shots, seldom needs repair & is more reliable than a Semi-Auto.

What does Paul Harrell say? I'm sure he has a youtube video on this subject. I love that guy.
Personally, I'd go bolt. Less moving parts.

I like the article that some posted a while back advising 1 each off several weapons. If u can afford it gives you multiple tools in the tools box. If all you have is a hammer l youre screwed.

If you are a lousy shot, semi-auto.

Ruger PC carbine in 9mm. Uses glock magazines. Mags can be interchanged between a handgun and this short rifle.

When the zombies charge you will need rotary magazines that get the rounds out quickly. You won’t have time to work the bold.

Good 30.06 or .270 bolt action for game, semi-auto 5.56 or 7.62 for not so nice 2 legged game, good .22 semi or bolt for small stuff and a 20 or 12Ga for in the house and bagging doves, ducks etc.

‘Trapper’ lever action in .357 Magnum.
18-inch barrel is optimum for the caliber, and with non’plus p loads in either 125g or 158g, will eviscerate a coyote, or intruder, at 100 yards, iron sights.
You can load two, shoot two, and singularly load and fire both wadcutters and semi-wadcutters. No change of magazines, or stripper clips.
I’ve shot milsurp bolt actions, overseas the m16 was the tool. The lever action will do

The answer to this question is YES.
I think it’s good to have a variety.
