Erstwhile funnyman David Letterman, who continued to grow more bitter — on-air — toward all things conservatives as his “Late Night” on CBS went along, earlier this month was funnier than as I’ve seen my fellow-Hoosier in years.
So funny in fact that one of his jokes, in particular, brought tears of laughter to my eyes: “The press,” he said — and here comes the punchline — “educates and informs people.” [Insert ROFL emoji.] Therefore, he observed, “people don’t need to be aware of every single thing that’s going on.” [Insert second ROFL emoji.]
Letterman’s comments came during an interview with IndieWire, in which he spoke at length about President Trump. He believes the low point of Trump’s presidency came shortly after his inauguration in January 2017.
“Well, I’ll tell you when it really began was when he declared that the press was the enemy of the people,” referring to comments from Trump that originated in early 2017 on Twitter, soon after his inauguration and as just one of his many rampages upon ‘fake news.'”
Trump has continued the “enemy of the people” mantra for four years, often chiding “mainstream” media cameramen during his rallies — which I love — and accusing the liberal media of promulgating “fake news” on a regular basis. To suggest that Donald J. Trump has lived rent-free, 24×7, in the heads of the liberal media lapdogs of CNN and MSNBC, for example, would be the understatement of understatements.

Nonetheless, Letterman has zero appreciation for Trump’s view of the media.
And to me, this seemed like something you hear coming out of Venezuela, when Hugo Chávez was running that country. I thought, ‘This is not right.’ Even ill-informed people like myself know that this is not right.“The press is not the enemy of the people. The press educates the people. The press informs the people.
“The press does the heavy lifting for people who don’t need to be aware of every single thing that’s going on because the press is doing that job for them.
“So to single [the press] out as the enemy for the people, that’s when I really thought, ‘Oh my God.’ Having said that, as we know, things have gotten worse.”
Uh-huh, Dave. You mean just like the press has “educated” and “informed” us about the Democrat presidential nominee’s son Hunter Biden’s email controversy? And emails directly linking Biden to the scandal?
Or maybe you meant the way the press kept us “educated” and “informed” about Tara Reade’s charges of sexual assault charges against Biden, and how he remained silent about those charges?
Or, heck, maybe you were referring to the fact that it was Hillary Clinton — not Donald Trump — who colluded with the Russians in an attempt to influence the 2016 election. Is that the kind of educating and informing you were talking about?

Also in the interview, conducted the day before the election, Letterman dreamed of a Trump loss.
“[November 3] will be a relief to every living being in this country, whether they realize it now or not. It certainly will be a relief to me and my family, and I think generally the population. I’m more confident now than I was then, and I was pretty confident then. I was wrong. I don’t think I’ll be wrong this time.”
While it remains to be determined whether Letterman was right or wrong, his mistaken belief that a Trump loss and a Biden win would be “a relief to every living being in this country” is illustrative of how out of touch the elitist old liberal and people who believe as he does have become. As we stand, according to a Politico/Morning Consult poll, more than 70 percent of Republicans believe the election was not “free and fair.”
Among those who believed that the election wasn’t free and fair, 78 percent believed that mail-in voting led to widespread voter fraud and 72 percent believed that ballots were tampered with — both claims that have made a constant appearance on the president’s Twitter thread. Like President Donald Trump, a majority of the people that thought the election was unfair, 84 percent, said it benefited Biden. You wanna rethink that whole “every living being in this country” thing, Dave? I’d love to see one of your “Late Show Top 10 Lists” about what a majority of people in the heartland — where you and I grew up — think about your out-of-touch views of the media and Donald Trump. Even more so, I’d like to write one about you.
If by Press he just means Newsmax, OANN, and a handful of other conservative sources- then yep- he’s right0-
Good. Then let’s abolish the redundant Dept. of Education.
The press educates the people.
He's half right, the Leftist propaganda educates the people, all but 70 million or so.
Black is White. Up is Down. Lies are Truth. Poverty is Wealth.
Letterman is reading from an old 0bama script...
The last interesting thing Letterman ever said or did was his feud with Cher in the 1980s.
Funnyman...David Letterman? He was never funny to me. I tried watching him several times but I turned him off after about 20 minutes or half an hour. He just left me cold.
After a 3 year ruskie hoax, yeah that is funny:-)
He sure wasn’t to me either. I remember watching 5 minutes of his first show. That was all I could take.

people with various disorders watched him.

I am not familiar with the press he is referring to.
Letterman was funny in the ‘80s. He introduced me to Chris Elliott, and Larry “Bud” Melman. Letterman in the ‘90s was boring, and now he’s simply another uninteresting left-wing crank.
Is this going to stay all messed up - nearly impossible to read. Is this what was happening over the weekend with FR problems? If so, it’s still there...

This is what I’m talking about - does no one else see this?
The “a” seems to be a big problem...what’s up?
What’s with all the crappy formatting?
ââââââââ
Seems to work ok for me...

This is because Letterman used to BE the lamestream press, along with my dear late friend John Lindsay back in Indiana, in the 70s. Dave was as emotionally immature then as he is now.
"â☐☐"
When I was in school we spelled that with only one box ...
So, the media who knows more and more about less and less will lecture us on everything about nothing; news stories are like a recipe, facts are like spices - add too much spice and you spoil the recipe.
Letterman was NEVER funny.
