“Morally and economically, the welfare state creates an ever accelerating downward pull. Morally, the chance to satisfy demands by force spreads the demands wider and wider, with less and less pretense at justification. Economically, the forced demands of one group create hardships for all others, thus producing an inextricable mixture of actual victims and plain parasites.” -Ayn Rand
I think that this quote by Ayn Rand on the welfare state is, like most quotations of hers, absolutely spot on. It perfectly sums up the negative current and after-effects of the welfare programs enacted by “looters” in the government to please their constituencies.
For starters, I think that this quote by Ayn Rand on the welfare state shows just what is behind the creation of a massive, sprawling complex of welfare programs and subsidies, which is what I am referring to when I say “the welfare state.” While de Tocqueville was right that such programs can be created out of a Congressional desire to bribe voters, I think there is more to it than that.
“The Chance to Satisfy Demands By Force” and the Subversion of our Republic The “more to it” is what is termed in this quote by Ayn Rand on the welfare state “the chance to satisfy demands by force.”
In a republic such as ours, for something to happen, for some program to be enacted, theoretically it has to be a program supported by both the citizens of our nation and their representatives. We are not a democracy, so it cannot just be a vote, but we are also not an oligarchy or other tyrannical state, so it cannot be done purely by fiat.

Rand was a prophet.

Ping!...................
I read most of her works...prophet she was.
The sex scenes in her books involved animal magnetism. More animal.
Rand had seen it first hand...Frederic Bastiat sums it all up quite nicely in terms even the unlettered can easily understand in his “The Law”...
More on Bastiat here:
I found ATLAS SHRUGGED to mirror 2020 with shocking accuracy.
Indeed she was.
“When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you - When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed.”
-- Ayn Rand
Not bragging or anything, but you could see that one coming a long way off.
Lefturd loons are parasites, and lefturdism is parasitism. Parasites, in order to survive, need to gain the unearned, the undeserved, and something for nothing. Parasites take two forms, beggars and thieves, moochers and looters. Lefturd thieves have to use a bunch of con jobs to steal America. Con men have to use dishonesty, deceit, and lies to rip off their gullible naive targets
social programs and welfare spending did not explode until women got the right to vote
and the “feelings pandering” started to begin
and then we got prohibition, which was so incredibly awful it was repealed
Rand correctly noted that _force_ and _fraud_ were totally related—the current “election” would not have surprised her at all.
Likewise the current leftist dogmas fell right into her wheel-house description of “witch-doctors” posing as scientists.
Yep.

Bastiat was great
‘...satisfy demands by force...’?
What we have now is ‘force Democracy’ or ‘hyper democracy, as it’s been called.
Groups have been using the system to destroy the system. Abuse of free speech is typical of what I mean.
These people make no distinction between liberty and license.
Example: I am free to drive a car..... but am NOT free to drive a car 70 MPH into a crowd of school children
