At the gathering at Joint Base Andrews when he left office to fly back to Florida, they played that song as his plane was taxiing the runway before take off. I had never really "heard" the last verse before, but wow, how it fit the moment:
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows
I took the blows
And did it my way
Brilliant A.W., yes he did it his way. As a bit of a Sinatra fan those lyrics didn’t go un-noticed all these years, but never more fitting.
