Severe drought has caused California's reservoirs to run low, with Lake Oroville expected to reach a record low later this summer. Nearly three-quarters of the state is suffering from the extreme dry spell, with other areas facing a dire water supply situation and fears of wildfires.
Each year, Lake Oroville helps water a quarter of the nation's crops and sustain endangered salmon beneath its dam. However, the lake is seen to be shrinking at a surprising speed amid a severe drought.
According to AP, state officials are forecasting it will reach a record low as hot summer looms.
If the lake drops below 195 m (640 feet), which is possible by late August, officials would have to close down a major power plant for the second time ever due to low water levels that will strain the electrical grid during the hottest part of summer. The lake's record low is 197 m (646 feet).
While dry spells are common in California, this year is much drier than the previous seasons, with waters quickly evaporating from reservoirs.

The solution for the Democrats is to bring in millions more water consuming illegals and expand their insane chain immigration polices.
Too bad they can’t come up with imaginary water like they do the imaginary voters. Besides, it’s probably something that Trump did that is causing this. Ya’ know?
CA reservoirs were designed to provide a steady five year supply for all users, and were filled to the top in June 2019

Pretty sparse snow this past winter. Trump/CV-19 to blame.
GREAT NEWS! Their own fault. I lived there for 67 years and saw it happen with my own eyes.
A lot of Orange on that map. Orange map bad.
I thought the Sonora desert was getting a lot of rain. Cactus blooms and all.. record year and all.
Weird huh. Pre scamdemic and post scamdemic. Fauxcheeze email connection? :-}
Exactly. That's what I have been wondering - what happened to all the record rainfall we had a couple of years ago?
This has been going on forever - panic over draughts, then it rains & panic over floods, then panic over draughts. Repeat year after year.
You would think somebody would come up with an idea like saving all the water during the flood years instead of letting it run off to the ocean.
Deport every last illegal and CA would have enough water for it’s US citizens.
What really happened ... the Orville dam reservoir was so high a couple of years ago that it was in danger of failing?
Surely they are not still spilling water for hydropower?
I thought they had all the wind and solar they need.
Play stupid games...
So the hydro plant gets shut down, while at the same time, the electric car advocates are pushing more of the cars that rely on electricity. As for additional infrastructure for charging stations, that’s another topic for another day.
Maybe another Californian can help me out here. Didnt we just vote for adding reservoirs about 8 years ago?
I said that years ago. We’d have enough electricity too. I’ll start saving electricity and water when they’re all deported and we still don’t have any. ;)
