He was not an ABC journalist; at the time he broke the Clinton-Lynch meeting story, Mr. Sign was a reporter/anchor for KNXV, the ABC affiliate in Phoenix. A year later, he turned down an offer from one of the networks (believed to be Fox) to return to Birmingham, the city where he launched his TV career, as main anchor for ABC 33/40, the same station that employs James Spann, arguably the most popular local TV meteorologist in the country.
The death is being investigated as a suicide. So far, I haven’t heard what factors led to that determination. From all I can gather, there were no problems at work; he was married with three sons, and haven’t heard any mention of family or financial troubles, either.
Of course, no one truly knows what’s going on in someone else’s mind. Might have been a suicide, but then again, his 2016 report was one more nail in Hillary’s coffin and it pissed off a lot of powerful people—and some of them have long memories and unlimited resources.
Portions of Hoover, AL (where Sign lived) are in Jefferson County, the largest “blue” enclave in the state. Wouldn’t be hard to engineer a cover-up in that part of Alabama—if one occurred.
