Ukraine President Agrees To Hold Talks “Without Preconditions” With Russia At Belarus Border

In a hopeful sign of de-escalation, Ukrainian officials said they will meet Russian counterparts at the Belarus border, shortly after Vladimir Putin said he is putting Russia’s nuclear forces on higher alert.

In a Facebook post, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that Ukraine has agreed to talks with Russia on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.

“We have agreed that the Ukrainian delegation will meet with Russian without prior conditions on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, in the area of the Pripyat River,” Zelenskiy said. A delegation has already left Kyiv, Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of Zelenskiy’s party, said in televised comments.

The Ukraine foreign minister said that he will go to listen to what Russia has to say and that he will not surrender territory.

The confirmation came after Russia earlier sent a negotiation team to the southeastern Belarusian city of Gomel. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the “Russian delegation is ready for talks, and we are now waiting for the Ukrainians” in the Belarusian city of Homel, per AP.

In response, Zelensky said in a video address that he’s open to talks, but not in Belarus which he said was not neutral territory.

“If there had been no aggressive action from your territory, we could talk in Minsk … other cities can be used as the venue for talks,” Zelensky said. “We want peace, we want to meet, we want an end to the war,” he added.

“Warsaw, Bratislava, Budapest, Istanbul, Baku — we proposed all that to the Russian side. Any other city would work for us, too, in a country from whose territory rockets are not being fired.”

While an encouraging development, this won’t be the first time that the two nations have exchanged proposals for a potential ceasefire, only to see the plans collapse.

The news helped push the weekend IG spread market for the “weekend Dow” higher by about 150 points although it remains well in the red from Friday’s close.

Meanwhile, in the latest battlefield developments, overnight Russian forces on Sunday attacked Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-biggest city. Much of Europe has closed its airspace to Russia, and offers of military assistance continue to flow in.

Also overnight, Western nations agreed to exclude some Russian banks from the SWIFT messaging system, used for trillions of dollars worth of transactions between banks around the world, further isolating Russia’s economy and financial system.

Good to hear, maybe things will calm down now.

Putin will demand that Zelenski step down. He wants to install his own Ukraine puppet government, the same way that China did in the USA.

It came across my feed that one of Putin’s demands will be that the Ukraine President has to list acts of corruption, by Biden and other American politicians, in a public statement that everybody will see.

People were wondering why Belarus, considering they are a helping Putin. I’m thinking that’s to send a message that Ukraine is meeting Russia, on Russian terms.

The problem is for Russia, that it’s now getting to the point where even if they win, it will be a Pyhrric Victory.

“as that is now going on, missiles just launch from Belarus and new grad attacks on some cities” (comma added, LOL)

Always happens that way, as it makes sense, strategically, as it strengthens negotiating position once a cease fire is announced.

And hopefully Zelensky stops taking orders from the kids surrounding Biden.

Some indicators that Russian campaign is just about as finished as it can ever get.

I noticed a video this afternoon...Russian APC sitting on the side of the road. Out of fuel. No fuel truck anywhere in sight. Planning-wise, this was just a slapped-together situation at the last minute.

Another report indicating a max of four days worth of missiles on hand. None of this was supposed to go past the 4th day (we are on day eight now).

This morning, Ukraine announced it was releasing prisoners out of jail/prisons who were willing to fight. They had two guys were sentenced for killing and torturing people....government was evaluating if they could be trusted enough to let go.

“Putin will demand that Zelenski step down. He wants to install his own Ukraine puppet government, the same way that China did in the USA.”

And the US impotently tried to make happen in Cuba. But I agree, replacement of the Ukraine government is the goal, nothing less will stop this.

I would agree that the West could make it Pyhrric, but only we jettison the Green New Deal, go drill-baby-drill and engage in a massive arms buildup.

Otherwise, Putin will move on to new targets, to get Europe into a political condition that he approves of.

Why in the world would Putin want to oust Biden? His presidency is the greatest gift ever given to America’s enemies.

Air drop a dozen of Ukraine’s most vicious killers into the Urals with orders to find and kill Putin.

It worked a couple of times in Hollywood. Maybe it would in Russia?

It’s not called “reports” it’s “propaganda.”

Use your head for something other than a place to put your cap. If things were so badly wrong for the Russians why the heck is Zelensky ready to sit down and talk so quickly??

Ceasefire to be announced by Biden at SOTU. Nobel Peace Prize to follow. Everything else is just the setup.

Humiliation of the US would be a plus to him.
If that is what happens, that would be a plus to us as well, I think.

Wrong place to hold them, Zelensky. Make sure neutral parties are THERE and put it in the middle of Ukraine somewhere.

Don’t let them get you cornered.

The demands are actually to drop NATO ambitions, remove Western weapons, and recognize breakaway republics.
Zelensky yesterday signaled that he is open to it but something went wrong.
I expect him to keep goofing around.

This is what Zelensky should be doing. Russia is probably wrapping up most of their operation already. The sooner the agreement gets made the sooner Putin goes home.
