During the 1960s, the University of California, Berkeley was ground zero in the battle for free speech. Long-haired freaky people marched and fought for their Bill of Rights. The mantra was, “I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death for your right to say it.”
Fifty-seven years and two generations later, the grandchildren of those freedom-loving hippies are now fighting against free speech, because words hurt and their parents never said “no” to them. Today, Berkeley’s participation-trophy-winning, pink-haired, spoon-fed hipster girls/boys/she-dudes get their panty liners in a bundle every time Ann Coulter drops in for a speech.
Watch this brief video below. A snotty student declares that HE has decided where free speech ends. Near the end of the video, the news anchor actually kinda, sorta commends the self-indulgent, cry-baby mob for not rioting or starting fires. He doesn’t mention that the students of Berkeley have made a 180-degree turn from their beatnik grandparents. Free speech is no longer cool. Today’s Berkeley brat embraces fascism.
My parents were JFK Democrats. My dad claimed he voted for Trump in 2016 for several reasons, one of which was that the Democrats were “no longer the party of JFK.” I didn’t have the heart to tell him it was no longer even the party of Bill Clinton.
When the debate about gay people in the military raged, Bill Clinton, stuck on the fence, famously suggested “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” Today, as the Chinese army practices to slaughter American soldiers, our newly woke military is busy racking up hours of “diversity and inclusion” training. It’s nice to know the enemy’s pronouns before a firefight.

I blame their Parents.
They were willing to fight to the death to defend free speech because they weren’t yet in charge. Now they are. Now free speech doesn’t work for them because their ideas don’t work and they can’t have people poking holes in them.

Even back in the 1960s, the radicals really hated the Liberals. Back then, the Democrat Party was dominated by Lyndon Johnson and Hubert Humphrey. The radicals hated them. Folksinger Phil Ochs had a bitter song, “Love Me I’m a Liberal”.
The Liberals are gone. All that’s left are the radical communists. The Democrat Party hates America and is working to destroy it. And plenty of Republicans are eager to help.
I don’t really see it as any sort of generational struggle. It’s just Gramsci and his long march through the institutions. The crazy people played a long game and they have done well for themselves.
Nothing has changed. The Left is only for free speech from THEIR side. Once they have control, they will gleefully censor others.
Today’s republicans are the 60s JFK democrats.
Today’s democrats are the result of 60s hippies inbreeding.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but reports of the death of the Democrat party are greatly exaggerated. 40% of the public still believes their lies.
It’s in fashion to blame everyone. I was a Reagan Democrat. Switched from the party in 1982. I still love JFK, Bobby, and FDR. Call me whatever names you want. The country has changed a lot since then.
Had three and a half kids. One conservative Republican, a conservative libertarian, and a recovering liberal stepson who is now as to the right as me. The fourth one I told from the eighties that Biden was excrement. So she moved to DC, went to Georgetown, became a lawyer, and voted for him.
They can blame themselves too … for raising the idiots that raised their idiot grandkids.
And a lot of drugs.
