Mountain House is the best freeze dried. I heard Wise is pretty bad. The best dried milk is Grandma’s Country Cream. I cannot tell the difference between it and real milk. We use it all the time.
Been stocking up on Augason Farms for a while now, but have yet to try any of them. We’re getting ready to reach the 10 year mark for a few (some of the smaller, canned items are *just* 10 years), so we’ll pop them open and try them before replacement.
Even if they’re not great I suppose it’s better than starving or eating cardboard.

Don’t get the pre-packaged garbage from companies selling SHTF alarmism.
Rice, beans, canned meats and fruits, oil, vitamins... staples.
I also raise chickens, fruit and lettuce.

I’ve read that during the war in Kosovo people there prized Dinty Moore beef stew above all else.
So it would seem to me that if you’ve got the storage space, just stock up on stuff like that. No need for expensive freeze-dried food unless you’re going off camping somewhere.
Emergency Essentials - https://beprepared.com - has been around a long time and their flat rate shipping can’t be beat. They used to carry Mountain House but have their own brand now. I’ve never bought any long term storage food as it can be expensive. It’s definitely a way to be stocked up quickly with 20-25 year food though. Much of it can be done DIY with buckets, mylar bags, a way to seal them and O2 absorbers or in some cases, desiccant.

There are some things to consider like container size. Five gallon buckets are heavy, take up vertical space and won’t fit everywhere. Also, once you open one, it’s a lot to go through. A lot of people prefer #10 cans for that reason.
The DIY versions can be regular canned goods from the store, home canned goods. Sugar and salt last forever but will harden. Rice, beans and pasta last a long time with no special storage.
I purchased a 3-month emergency food kit from Ready Supply Foods. It was a little more expensive than some but it supposedly tastes better. I hope I never have to find out.

The LSD church used to recommend 1 year’s worth but are now up to 2 years. Three months is a good start. Then you can go for a year and then two years etc. Store bought canned goods last indefinitely, especially if you avoid pull top cans.
If one has a few grand to blow, they can be stocked up quick with the LTS foods but you might want to try things before you stock up years worth. Would suck to open something after the shtf only to find you don’t like it.

Last time I checked the LDS foods purchase site, a lot, if not most of their goods were out of stock.

Results vary by location. Sometimes you need an LSD friend to get you in.
You should avoid all of them at least in terms of buying any large volume.
The foods sold as survival foods do in fact last a long time and are generally light and easy to transport but...
None of these products, not even Patriot Supply, puts enough calories (for those of you that measure in calories) into the ration. Those that do put in more than the others often bulk up the count through adding calorie dense carbs not nutrient dense foods. In a situation where you are actually “surviving” and any work needs to be done then 3000 calories is more likely to be needed. Some of these companies offer half that and some even less and are only good for extending your period of slow starvation while sitting in a basement somewhere waiting for death.
Almost without exception the foods are almost devoid of anything resembling fiber. Ask a soldier that spent time eating MREs for any length of time without access to fresh fruit and vegetables. Youre going to wind up with constipation as severe as someone on opioids. Bread and water was a real punishment with real consequences, dont subject yourself to it voluntarily.
The freeze dried products also tend to give people a false sense of security as these people have often not really considered water storage and dont have access to enough. Open sources may be contaminated and unreliable or the situation may be that accessing them in dangerous in your environment.
Should you have some of these lifeboat bars in your car? Seems prudent if you can afford it. Should you have some freeze dried or MRE type foods in a backpack/tote? Being prepared is never unwise. Should you try to live off any of that stuff long term? Only a fool would attempt it.
And if you hate Spam, get the small cans. They don’t have much Spam in them.
