When the republican Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives publicly supports a legislative change that would permit the republican Governor to run for the GOP nomination, it doesn’t happen without prior discussion.
FLORIDA – Top Republicans in the Florida legislature said Tuesday that they’d be willing to change state election law so that Gov. Ron DeSantis could run for president without resigning from his current job.
“I think that’s a great idea,” Florida House Speaker Paul Renner said in a press conference with reporters at the state capitol, when asked about potential changes to the state’s so-called “resign to run” election law in the forthcoming legislative session. “I think we’ll look at that.”

I disagree with the proposal. Not because I am not impressed with DeSantis. Because people are elected to do a job. If they want to do another job, do it on your own time.
As I remember, Obama served for one tetrm as a junior senator by default and whiff, the next thing you know he was running for president.
This guy is another Baraq Hussein Obama in his first term as senator.
You beat me to it !
Florida still uses RCV-enabled voting machines.
Still has early voting.
Still has mail-in voting.
Let’s see if DeSantis does something about those first.
He cannot win the primary.
As long as DeSantis doesn’t go RINO I don’t have a problem with him being the next republican candidate for prez if he beats Trump in the primaries.
If that happens and DeSantis wins the Presidency I’d love to see Trump become the Florida Governor.
Poetic Justice.
Obama had not served a single full term as Senator. He took office in 2005.
DeSantis has considerably more time in office than this and will have already served a full term as governor if he were to run.
Moreover, rather absurd for you to make this argument against DeSantis as a hit against him to support Trump when Trump had never previously held a political office.
Subversives...
Oh yes. Because no governor has ever turned into president midway. Nor has any other elected official.
As a lifetime Florida resident I’m all for it.
Yes, he can.
Do Democrats ever resign loke Dole did to run for another office? No. Ron D can walk and chew gum AND run for President at the same time.
If you don’t like it and you live in Florida please write to your state senators and legislators. They don’t meet again until March I think but we can get a B in their bonnet as quickly as possible telling them we want Ron DeSantis to do his job as governor and wait his turn to be president. Otherwise we lose respect for his judgment and his character.
Why not?
You only-Trumpers are backing a losing candidate. Until Trump admits that his warped-vision vaccine was a mistake, not a great achievement, I would not even consider voting for him in a Republican primary. I like being alive, and Trump’s “great achievement” almost killed me.
It’s irreleavant if it is Desantis or Trump unless we master VBM, Vote By Mail
From “Election Wizard” in quotes: VBM
It doesn’t matter if it is Trump or DeSantis on top of the ticket because “Democrats fortified their COVID mass mail-in-voting apparatus, vote by mail VBM. It’s a vote-harvesting juggernaut that will continue to produce competitive results no matter the GOP nominee. “
“It it’s crucial to understand VBM has changed the game in many ways. 2020 wasn’t a one-off. There is now a well-established Democrat machine that will harvest hordes of votes during “Election Month.” “
What they legally do (some call it legal cheating) is go to each registered Democrat and ask them if they want them to hand in their ballot, Fetterman had 70% of his vote in before the debate, two weeks before the election. In every questionable state, AZ, NV, PA the democrats control the Secretary of State-the people in charge of voting. And of course who knows about the illegal cheating who is really filling in the ballots but it is untraceable in almost every state.
It’d be a mistake. He should wait until 2028. In the meantime, become AG or Sec State? Both agencies need complete cleaning. Maybe even VP with major responsibilities. He would walk into the job then.
He was a Senator for @ 6 months when he launched his bid for President.
Disgraceful.
