I disagree. The movement to totalitarianism from Progressivism is natural and expected. It is the obvious result of placing more and more power in the hands of government, and removing more and more checks and balances on government power, which was a prominent goal of Progressivism.
I disagree that the current crop are "Marxists". More correctly they are Fascists, quite willing to allow the nominal ownership of big business to remain in private hands.

Continuing to complain about, and joust with, the concepts of progressivism and left-wing extremism will have no good outcome... Except for the “windmills”...

But that’s not the interesting question. The better and more difficult question to answer is this...
“Are there enough people who are willing to do what it takes to reverse it?”
Definitely not right now. Things have to get much, much worse, way more suffering and abuse, for people on the right, and in general, to be sufficiently motivated and committed to risk their lives in an all out uprising.
I just don’t see that on the horizon. The vast majority is still pretty comfy. Most are content being keyboard warriors... and voting republican.
For the near and mid term, all I see is more of the same. We’re like the frog in the pot - they gradually raise the heat but we stay there and get used to the higher temperature.
It’s simple reality.
