Multiple fire crews are at the scene of a large fire at an egg farm in Bozrah on Saturday.
Firefighters said the fire is in a chicken coop at Hillandale Farms on Schwartz Road. According to Colchester Fire Department, there are water issues and more tankers are being called. In a video posted by Norwich Fire Department, there appears to be extensive damage to the chicken coop.
Crews are still working to extinguish the fire. There is large amounts of smoke in the area.
The smoke from the fire can be seen on Route 2 near exit 24.

Hillendale Farms is a shabbily run operation with a history of problems every few years. Criminal Jack Decoster is a principle in the rise of Hillendale.
Never mind the smoke-—the smell of feathers burning is pretty much unforgettable. Can’t be over ridden by the smell of chicken frying.
I think the FD added the water too late for them to be “poached”.......
Until they get called back later tonite and the other coops will be almost fully involved by the time they get there.
Just a coincidence I’m sure……
They might well realize this ain’t the 6th or 7th century...
If the “peasants” decide to revolt, the royalty might not have a very good time...
“Poachers?”
More like “Broasters”
ABSOLUTELY! Bastards! How come those chicken farms don’t have security or cameras? You would think they would’ve already learned from other farms going up in flames and food warehouses. Either those farmers are being paid big bucks to kill off their chickens or something more sinister like PETA doing it.
I am confused. States Hillandale Farm on Schwartz Road, which looks like the pix you show, but map indicates Hillandale is several miles East totally different road, while the huge thing farm shown is called Pierce Hollow?
I’m interested because I lived in Norwich and am somewhat familiar with the area, but not these places. Map wrong?
So is it on the tiny Schwartz Road, or miles to the east?
My map indicates Hillandale is not anywhere close to Scwartz and it looks like a smaller place than what is on Schwartz.
Ping
Broilers.
Yeah, a guy on another thread told me they have several locations, and that each of these buildings house around 100k birds.
eggsactly...
Yes.
There are several reports of chickens being infected with some sort of disease.
Yes.
Well, a ‘fire sale’ is one way to recover the loss via an insurance claim.
And No.
I will explain how it actually works.
You get the little man from the Ag department in. If your birds are infected he buys them at slightly over value.
The birds are then destroyed.
You still have your buildings, you can get back in business faster and your insurance rates do not go up.
So your scenario is beyond unlikely.
The egg farmer would have to be totally insane to do something like that.

We’re sharpening the ‘pitchforks’ and readying torches...
LOL...
It’s funny, eggs have gone outta site but I don’t find the price of chicken too much more in price.
Free roasted chicken.😏
