Perhaps Ohio and every state downstream on the Ohio River gets to stop paying federal taxes. I’ll take this opportunity to suggest yet again that we scrap the current tax code, shutter the IRS and go to a flat rate consumption tax on all new goods and services purchased by consumers. The consumption tax should be collected by the states along with state sales taxes. States in turn transfer the federal consumption taxes to the US Dept of Treasury. THAT introduces a much needed check and balance for states. Little disputes like this would result in Ohio withholding payment to the Treasury.
