This old woman is losing her faculties. (Click red link below the title above.) Last year she was still working every day in the agricultural fields of her village on the slopes of Mount Semeru in East Java.
She is sitting on the front porch watching the road from the home she knows in the neighbourhood where she is known.
She is in her decline - but her dignity's intact.
Does western institutionalised "care" work this well?
Does western institutionalised “care” work this well?
No. Western medicine is cruel and inhuman, and treats people like unfeeling robots, to be kept alive ONLY to justify billing Medicare. Unfortunately, Western culture generally sees no problem with that.
In my clan we take care of our young and our old, infirm, feeble, sick, etc., because we love them, and we don’t love them for their material value and input. In fact that’s a logical impossibility.
We’ll care for my in-laws just as they cared for their parents. My son’s will care for us. No old folks for me or mine. God, thank you for the blessings, amen.
I am blessed and don't have any senility in my family [yet].
The person that I am most familiar with that suffers from [extreme] senility lives in government housing in DC, is provided with a stipend (provided by the American taxpayer of course) and has a full time Doctor (Jill) to change his "Depends", but lacks, and never has had, any "Dignity".
Yeah, this is fine, until your elderly relative, who used to be a perfect gentleman or lady, begins trying to beat you up.
Seriously, that is what happens to Alzheimers patients. In a facility geared for them, they do better: they have trained people and special protocols, stuff most people can t provide at home.
O have known families who went through this, and their relatives were so much calmer in such a facility.
Additionally, it is very hard to care for the elderly adequately when you have a full-time job. When our society dragged women into the workplace, they really destroyed all sorts of things, including home care for older relatives (and volunteering at hospitals; now you pay for everything).
