If the author was a real journalist and not just a political hack, he would be investigating the identity of “an opaque advocacy group” instead of helping it stay shadowy.

That reporter would not care to do that if the Hub is fictional or if it is a Leftist organization.

You are on the correct track. The above depicts a conspiratorial group, not some sort of good government crusaders. I am very interested to find out what it really is. Until proved otherwise, I’ll assume the HUB is an “Intelligence Community” front, channeling public funding to aid the Democrat Party/UniParty by thwarting Democracy.
