This could have quite an impact beyond what the Mattel marketing department thinks. I wonder if the people at the National Down Syndrome Society explained that possibility as they touted diversity to Mattel? In popular circles diversity has precise meaning.

Wow. Awesome. Most mass-attending Catholics, weak as they are on all manner of teachings by Holy Mother Church on faith and morals, will probably end up being caught short by this piece, even embarrassed as it calls upon them to re-evaluate their attitudes and opinions.

Downs is not genetic in the usual sense. It’s almost always caused by the uneven division of the ovum, as occurs more frequently as a woman ages. There is only a tiny percentage of cases that are actually genetic as we think of it.

No amount of killing off fetuses will ever eliminate it. It would have to be by a different process that we haven’t invented yet.
