Ron DeSantis Compares Himself to a Disciple of Jesus Christ

Yeah, he really did that. Folks, I’m not sharing this to be snarky about Ron DeSantis per se’, this isn’t actually his messaging. It’s worth looking at this through the prism of who is operating the management, branding and communication effort. This level of ridiculous religious pandering is stunningly identical to Ted Cruz in the early 2016 GOP nomination.

The DeSantis campaign knows they need to target evangelical and faith-based voters. Put a group of people who are not actually centered on the principles of faith in charge of a political campaign, tell them they need to appeal to faith-based voters, and this is exactly what you get.

The DeSantis campaign organizes what should be an interview with friendly allies in the Christian Broadcasting Network. [Full Interview Here] CBN’s David Brody then interviews Ron DeSantis asking him what historic figures he would associate himself with. DeSantis’s answer is so far beyond pandering cringe, it makes you seriously wonder who constructed this messaging for him [likely, Jeff Roe]. WATCH:

Throughout the New Testament, you will find ordinary and unlikely people who have been called to be Jesus’s Disciples. Andrew and Peter were fishermen who were uneducated and consider low in status, Matthew was a tax collector, which in those days was like you admitting you were a crook. Jesus took these men and created some of his first disciples.

Do we we need to define tow home who we should be disciples - the Jesuits? Or maybe disciples of Trump or disciples of DeSantis?

Acts 20:30 and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them.

At least DeSantis knows that being a disciple of Jesus is the only correct answer.

Don’t know or care what Ron actually said.

Even broaching the subject is a major faux pas.

But Ron has some Bush in him.

What was it that Ann Richards famously said, Daddy Bush was born with a silver foot in his mouth.

Ron’s foot in mouth disease may not be congenital or the foot may not be silver, but it seems to be in his mouth a lot.

That’s quite a high bar to reach, considering that Cruz usually attended 2 or 3 prayer breakfasts every morning at this point in 2015.

Although Trump has gotten a lot of evangelical support, he hasn’t made many specific references to religion.

There was one time I remember that he said or did something early on and got burned for it and learned his lesson.

President Trump is not out actively proclaiming himself to be sent from GOD... Since he has NOT said he would like to be a disciple of Jesus, you are just huffing and puffing away.

I characterize President Trump's love of country and charitable deeds cover a multitude of sins ... I am thankful President Trump has not gone down the path of Ted Cruz and Gov. DEE-Saintis..

What you ignore is the world of difference in Catholicism lingo and Protestant denominations ... I would think more of DEE-Saintis IF he would challenge his brother in Catholicism ‘godfather’ Joey.
