Again with this BS. He is not the one who did these deeds. You’re thinking of Poroshenko, whom Zelensky ousted in a landslide on a platform of peace, eradicating corruption, and increasing ties with the West.
Under Poroshenko, after the ouster of Yanukovich, fake secession movements backed by the Kremlin cropped up in Crimea and in the Eastern Oblasts, with their own militias. Countering them were the anti-Russian militias, such as the Azov Battalion. Both sides killed civilians and each other. Poroshenko enabled the Azovs. Putin enabled the DPR. That’s life in civil war.
“Ethnic” is nonsense on stilts. Speaking Russian doesn’t make you an “ethnic Russian” anymore than speaking Ukrainian makes you an “Ethnic Ukrainian.” Surnames are a clue, but not entirely determinative. For example, Zelensky is a Polish surname, but Volodemere’s first language was Russian, and he was neither an ethnic Pole or Russian, but Jewish. Grasp these basic principles, and you might have a clue as to the reality of Eastern Europe. It’s a mixing pot, but not a melting pot.
Sur-names ending in -enko are Ukrainian.
Those ending in -ian are Armenian.
-ashvilis are Georgian.
-ski and -sky are Polish and Russian, usually. But Zelensky remains Polish no matter how many y-s you stick on the end. -ovich, Russian. And so it goes, too complicated to make sense of even if you do GAGS, and I don’t.
All these ethnic groups live together together, and sometimes feud, as they were doing until Russia invaded, at which point they had a common enemy, Russia and those that collaborate with the Russian invaders.
The Eastern Ukrainians feuded with the Eastern Russians not because of any ethnic nonsense, but because they want to get shut of Russia, and the Eastern Russians feuded with the Eastern Ukrainians because 1. Putin is manufacturing strife, and 2. Ukrainians are escalating it, quite on their own, despite Zelensky.
Instead of pontificating with insufficient information about what Zelensky is supposedly doing or trying to do, I suggest watching Season 3 of Sluga Narodu (Servant of the People), which was in reality an election campaign.
