The family of Robert Card, the man accused of shooting and killing 18 people in Lewiston, Maine, have shared several details with police about Robert’s “acute” mental health episodes the months leading up to the mass shooting.
In an exclusive report, NBC News reported Katie Card who is married to Robert’s brother, shared that Robert began to hear “horrible” voices talking about him just shortly after he was “fitted for high-powered hearing aids.”
Katie Card told NBC “He was picking up voices that he had never heard.
She continued “His mind was twisting them around. He was humiliated by the things that he thought were being said.”
As of 6 PM on Thursday night Card is still at large after gunning down and murdering over a dozen people in Maine.

I’m guessing that most Freepers are vets, and most vets have hearing aids. Does anyone out there hear voices, besides their wife, dog or cat?
At least his brother and his sister-in-law knew about the problems - but did nothing about them.
He started hearing... “marijuana is harmless.”
The VA just gave me those high-powered hearing aids and they work great.
They don’t make me hear voices though...
Sounds like the hearing aids just amplified the voices in his head. and if this is true ,its sad his family didnt see it coming, the VA once again for the 100,000th time failed another vet.

Not a vet but, when I first got my hearing aids they’d sometimes connect via blue-tooth to other people’s mobile phones if they had the settings wide open. I would be in the grocery store listening, unwillingly, to people talk on the phone.
I wanted to be able to use my phone to say, “This is God Almighty. Your mother may not know you talk like that but I do! Repent!”
There is a police training exercise for mental health crisis desescalation called “hearing voices”
You wear a headset and listen to many different voices (sometimes left ear, sometimes right ear, sometimes both) saying things like “you are a dirty disgusting pervert” and “the world would be better off without you” etc.
It ain’t fun.
