Following the shocking tweet, the mayor of Reims --where Mekhissi was born and raised-- immediately condemned the tweet and wrote: "And to think that this person wore the shirt of the French national team! I am ashamed for our city, what a disaster!". ..."This is simply a provocation", the French media were angry following the words.
