This is the same guy who slept around in Hollywood, only married Nancy after she got pregnant, and then signed a very liberal abortion law as CA governor. People love him, but he was no saint.

“Reagan thought he had a pro-lifer in O’Connor, just as he also thought he had a pro-lifer in Justice Anthony Kennedy, a still greater disappointment.”

Yeah right...the man legalized abortion in California before Roe vs. Wade. It’s naive to believe he ever became a pro life.

Democrats never had to guess where their SCOTUS nominees stand on the issues. The Republicans, on the other hand, had to use stealth nominees in order to get them past a hostile senate.

Republicans are timid.

Not referring to this article only.

Why is it the GOP has to beg, grovel and barely get approval for a SCOTUS nominee after fighting against “are they too biased for conservatism” “are they too much of a Christian zealot” and “are they too far Right to be on the court?” and the old “are they anti-abortion lunatics who will interfere with a woman’s right to choose?”

Then the nominee turns out to be wishy washy and sides with the Dems to be congenial and liked by the other justices.

But...

When was there ever a case of the opposite? A lefty justice stays a lefty all the time, all the years, all the cases.

There were very bad rulings she joined but overall her record was on the “correct” side so was far better than any Democrat appointment would have been for the time she was appointed...and she was more conservative than even a number of Republican appointees before her (Blackmun and Stevens come to mind). And even she ruled some laws putting restrictions on abortion to be Constitutional.

She was indeed not the best...but also far, far from the worst.
